Here the "electrical distribution cost" is twice the electricity consumption cost.... Fans all got turned off last night... no more "carbon free drying" this year... so wonderfully blessed we got 80% of our crop...carbon free solar... wind powered ...dried grain!!! Patience was a virtue this fall!!!Originally posted by ColevilleH2S View PostThat's some expensive electricity.
At 14 cents per kwh (SK farm price) it works out to about half that cost here. And that is only if the fan is moving max air and max rated power, which a bin full of grain will not allow a fan to do.
Blessings!!!

Yikes,😮😱 I hope you’re wrong.Originally posted by caseih View PostGonna wait for a bit
Hard to believe, but it costs about $25/day to run a 5 hp fan !
Running 2-5hp 1-7.5hp and a 10hp fans today.
25 amps x 240V X 24 hours/1000 X $0.15=$21.60?
If my numbers are correct.Last edited by Sodbuster; Oct 23, 2023, 11:46.

I haven't done the math.Originally posted by caseih View PostGonna wait for a bit

All I know is having the crop in the bin, regardless of moisture or ambient temperature, and being able to monitor and maintain the grain is infinitely cheaper than having the crop sitting out in the snow all winter because I was waiting for ideal harvest conditions which rarely occur around here.

The Swather turned out to be the best wind powered solar collection grain drying machine on the farm this year!!!Originally posted by Sodbuster View PostYikes,😮😱 I hope you’re wrong.

With no frost… the swathed wheat turned out #1 13.5px12.6 moisture… can’t get more a efficient zero carbon system than this!!!
Swathed Canola dry… same results!
Cheers

Every area and every year is different, but here, I think a swather would have been the death knell for any hope of harvesting towards the end of harvest this year. We've had showers or rain every few days. Standing crop drives enough to continue on without much delay. Swans never do later in the fall. The same seems to be true most years around here.Originally posted by TOM4CWB View PostThe Swather turned out to be the best wind powered solar collection grain drying machine on the farm this year!!!

They’re saying Amp x volts x 1.73 = wattsOriginally posted by biglentil View PostA horsepower is equivalent to 735watts. An electric fan about 85% efficient. So 10hp is about 9kw/hr or $1/hr in sask.
5 hp (21 amp) x 208 volts x 1.73 = 7556 watts @100 % efficiency
Still $20.95/day at 85%
One of us is wrong ? Probably me ?
