    Government Downsizing

I read that the government was going to downsize and thought, good, a lot of positions created in the last few years weren't needed. They weren't there before, so why needed now?
But, I see that long time ag research positions are taking a hit. Does that mean the unnecessary job positions created are still filled? What signal does that send about/to agriculture?

Absolutely. Given the the federal gubmint in canuckistan does very little of any use, they are cutting positions that may be useful to protect useless ones. This is done to spite conservatives and try to communicate that gubmint cutbacks are bad. They could easily cut gender studies in foreign lands and abortions in foreign lands but they don't because that is the type of people they are.

Would be nice if the Government would allow the experimental farms to remain open but ask/force them to become way more efficient. I'm sure there could be alot of fat to trim. It might create some job loses but we wouldn't lose the value they provide to the agriculture sector. Over a decade ago(2012) the Government closed Indian Head's tree nursery. It doesn't look anything is happening there, I think it went to First Nation's land claims settlement.

Yes, PFRA tree nursery is owned by Carry the Kettle. They use admin building for their admin offices and band office. Rest of it has become a forest.

This liberal government needs to downsize their foreign handouts that are now over 10 billion while cutting Canadians ag investment

Public funding of plant breeding and ag research are some of the best investments governments make in agriculture.

The provinces and farm organizations need to step up and make a case for why these cuts are a mistake.

At first glance, they could've gotten rid of all organic and sustainability/regenerative nonsense and kept the breeding programs?

That would go against the NFU agenda lately, so this kinda bit them in the butt . That and the left’s obsession of giving all tax payers money to foreign pet projects of the liberal / NDP the past 10 years . Now reality hits and they finally stand up for ag research , karma has a way of whacking people in the back of the head .
One can only hand out so much of other people’s money before the axe comes down .

Then maybe it's time we seperate the wheat from the chaff and own it ourselves.
