Investments in reducing farmers cost of production and building resilience are good investments.

Plant breeding is one of the most important public investment. Instead some of you guys want to let the private sector take the seed system all over and charge a subscription every year for planting your own saved seed?

I guess the NFU didn’t have as much influence on ag issues as they thought they did or maybe they were in favor of the cuts to ag research. Hmmm.

It is all or none positions that create deficits.
Growers taking responsibility, and Bayer owning it all could be 2 different things.
The government can't do much of anything right and yet we want them to do more and more for us.
Either way we pay somehow so let's acknowledge it.

Then maybe it's time we seperate the wheat from the chaff and own it ourselves.

The average taxpayer can hardly afford groceries after paying nearly half their paycheques in taxes of all kinds.
Being told that their taxpayer dollars are resulting in a supposed 33:1 return, is cold comfort when they percieve farmers with our expensive equipment and landholdings as subsidized rich entitled elite( rightfully or wrongfully, that is the perception). If there is any ROI to the taxpayer it is very indirect.

If it really is a 33 : 1 return, then taking over the research farms is the best investment we as farmers can make. We can't rely on a bankrupt federal government and tapped out taxpayers. Besides the fact that the west may or may not even be a governed by Canada in the near future.

And yes, I have my doubts about the 33:1 stat.
