Spain | More renewables to continue lowering costs

    Summary

The increased penetration of renewable energies in Spain, especially solar and wind, has reduced wholesale electricity prices by 20% in the last three years and could cut them by a further 20% by 2030 if the ambitious PNIEC targets are met.

    Key points
    • Renewables contribute to lower electricity prices despite their dependence on weather conditions and the current lack of energy storage.
    • From 2021 to 2024, the remarkable 20 percentage point increase in the share of renewables, driven by solar and wind, reduced wholesale electricity prices in Spain by almost 20%.
    • Lower energy prices have reduced the unit revenues of solar and wind, especially in the case of solar. However, there is no clear evidence that lower energy prices are deterring investment in renewables (a phenomenon called ‘cannibalisation’).
    • Looking ahead, meeting the ambitious PNIEC targets could reduce prices by another 20%.

Climate heck, there is no comparative information in anything he posts. The moon has a completely renewable climate too.

That’s what I’m thinking as well. The original human which populated this account is a rabid ndp nutbar from somewhere in nw Sask. I’m not doxing the asshole but either it’s him using AI to assist his crusade or he just let the thing loose.

            I don't think Chuck is a bot.
His responses and limited subject matter are just bot like.
An actual bot might show a little more human like responses if programed properly.

Strong NDP are rather bot like on their favorite cause.
            From family experience.

              Listen
i dont undedstand why we have people bashing this. Its stupid to do so.

dont throw out the " ohhh they get more sunlight" ( they dont) or the .. " they have so much less snow" which is true.

the question we need to answer as canadians is. ..

HOW. HOW DID THEY DO THIS?

Our system is so effed that even if we had double the amount of generation... somehow our prices wouls continue to go UP. And why is it so expensive for us to do this? Tariffs on solar panels?
location to building materials? Labor cost?

WHY THE EFF WOULDNT WE WANT THIS?

And for those of us who bash the chucks... ( i get it. I do get it.. really. I do)

Do ANY of us that dont care for the chucks of the world.. firmly... and adamantly believe that burning gas and diesel is the BEST THING for our earth and our kids?

If you answer yes.... i call bull.

HOW DID SPAIN do this? Thats all that matters.

Think we all can agree alternatives which are economic effective and efficient are better than burning and polluting fossil fuels. Chuck is an asshole whether he’s right or wrong. Takes the oxygen from the room but if it means he’s not beating up on someone at home or swinging from the rafters then okay.

According to IEA, much of the world is investing heavily in renewables. And in the case of Spain it is lowering the cost of their electricity. Generating your own fuel free energy breaks their dependence on volatile imported oil and gas.

Now where did A5 go with his absurd claims that renewables always cost more?

And Spain's climate is similar to a lot of the south western US, but still some of you are pretty sure renewables don't work there either? Or in North Dakota or Texas?

Goalie is open and smart enough to ask the right question.

We have significant wind, hydro, and solar resources. How can we use those to our advantage?

And yes Wilson, Agrisilly is full of assholes, so if you are too sensitive and thinned skin then don't participate.

Nobody is forcing you to be here.

Chuck, you need to learn to read the fine print. Otherwise you will keep getting duped by propaganda headlines and make a fool of yourself.

Consumer electricity prices are UP in Spain compared to 2021.

Your bait click headline is about Wholesale electricity prices, not consumer prices. A strange thing happens on the way from "cheaper wholesale electricity" to consumers buying reliable 24/7 electricity on demand.

It is dated from Feb 2025, shortly before renewables crashed the Spanish grid and caused an estimated 1.9 Billion Euro's in economic loss and at least 7 deaths. That cost is not included.

The 2025 article also uses 2021 as the start date for measuring renewables, then switches to the vague term 3 years for prices. Allowing them to cherry pick the year 2022 when prices skyrocketed. Consumer prices are still higher than in 2021.

Consumer prices in Spain are still more than double Louisiana using fossil fuels. 3 times higher than India and China using Coal. 4 times higher than Russia using fossil fuels. That is quite an accomplishment you are celebrating.
