Doesn't mean they won't all close eventually I guess. Stettler one is pretty good and can outdo the UFA despite being an eighth of the size. New build in Red Deer is pretty useless. Poor location and caters more to the city than the farm. Think they have two big, newer, warehouses in Red Deer, one on the north end, one in the south, and are still the top sponsor on the Centrium for the Rebels.

Prince Albert has a new building less than 5yrs old?

Was a good place for cattle supplies, salt, mineral, fencing supplies, 2-W gates, lots of hard to get hardware, mower and baler parts, vet meds, tools, about everything you need to run cattle.
PA Co-op had a great stock of cattle supplies but they moved to a new building and some people changed and they have virtually nothing now.
Lot less small cattle producers in the area since BSE.
Sign of the times.

There isn't anything small anymore.

In the not so distant future the dominance of Walmart, Amazon, and Costco will eventually eleminate all smaller retailers.

Hopefully Canadain Tire can hang on.

Ever since the covid fiasco I've been trying much harder to support our local retailers.

We all want them to be there when we need something in an emergency on short notice. But don't want to do a regular shopping there. Then we get upset that they won't stock every imaginable supply that we might need when we can't wait for online or for a trip to the city.

Becomes a vicious circle.

The local Peavey Mart seems to hire a very diverse selection of misfits. Not sure if that's a woke ideology or simply reflection of the pool of candidates to choose from who want to work retail. They don't seem to bring a lot of agricultural or hardware industry knowledge with them. And I expect that demographic doesn't appeal to the average farmer customer.

Press release from a couple weeks ago says they have secured a $155 million in private financing.

That should hold them for alittle while.

It also states they have an agreement with the firm supplying the funds, who are retail consultants. I would guess it means they are reorganizing for an eventual sale or take over.

Even our local co-op doesn't stalk as much stuff as a few years ago and they ran everybody else out of town. Could not get a pitchfork at peavey before Christmas but they have lots of tractor T shirts and novelty shop signs

I’d like to see a ufa set up here. They got their fingers slapped going into sporting goods and pulled through unlike Peavy Mart. Though when princess auto, Home Depot, and crappy tire are a stones throw away it’s hard to differentiate and be competitive. Princess has recently started carrying more ag stuff.
