    Peavey Mart is toast

Heard today all locations shutting down. Figured they were going out a month ago when I went for dog food and none to be had and when I asked a drone they said they hadn’t been getting much in for a month because of shortages. Other stores didn’t seem to be having troubles getting in same products so I figured they were not paying suppliers. The company has always been a bit dodgy on keeping a consistent supply and same brands for as long as I can remember but you could tell by emptying shelves something was up. Guess buying a bunch of unprofitable TSC stores in Ontario wasn’t a smart move when they couldn’t run what they had decently. Kinda sucks but they dug their own hole.

Darn, I am sure going to miss Peavey. The Regina store was great, that was my first stop for “stuff”. It never disappointed me.

So far, I think the announcement is only for 22 stores in Ontario and Nova Scotia according to the CTV News article I read. The Regina store doesn't seem too bad and there always seems to be someone shopping there. The couple of times I got to the Weyburn store they seemed very well stocked. Maybe it's a regional thing? Or if they're the only option in town for the type of stuff they handle.

Who knows this could be just the beginning

Hopefully they keep the store locally .
Smaller communities have very few choices to begin with
There is nothing to replace it , I hate going to Walmart .

Camrose location shelves always full and the lot busy. UFA on the other hand, I don't know how they stay open.
          Different target markets.

They’re all closing. The manager at the local one was telling my mom. Initially the Ontario stores but that wasn’t enough to keep creditors at bay. Going to miss the damn place.

Buying Wholesale Sports nearly broke UFA. A case of "stay in your lane".

Prince Albert has a new building less than 5yrs old?

Was a good place for cattle supplies, salt, mineral, fencing supplies, 2-W gates, lots of hard to get hardware, mower and baler parts, vet meds, tools, about everything you need to run cattle.
PA Co-op had a great stock of cattle supplies but they moved to a new building and some people changed and they have virtually nothing now.
Lot less small cattle producers in the area since BSE.
                Sign of the times.

Our local store has empty shelves on most items you need.

If they could keep up with the skus that sell and stop bringing in beekeeping equipment they might have had a chance.

You can't sell from an empty shelf.

Couldn’t understand the beekeeping supplies thing.

Doesn't sound like they're all closing, just some in a "restructuring"

Doesn't mean they won't all close eventually I guess. Stettler one is pretty good and can outdo the UFA despite being an eighth of the size. New build in Red Deer is pretty useless. Poor location and caters more to the city than the farm. Think they have two big, newer, warehouses in Red Deer, one on the north end, one in the south, and are still the top sponsor on the Centrium for the Rebels.

                        There isn't anything small anymore.

In the not so distant future the dominance of Walmart, Amazon, and Costco will eventually eleminate all smaller retailers.

Hopefully Canadain Tire can hang on.
