Since you are the voice of reason, and the spokesperson for science, can we have a productive discussion on the practical application of these concepts?
As a supporter/member/executive of the NFU which is promoting low input agriculture, what changes have you made on your farm towards these goals?

Have you eliminated fertilizer and chemicals yet?

Cover crops?

Intercrops?

Biologicals?

How many livestock have you added, since that is really the only form of low input sustainable agriculture? Can you graze them year around in your climate, using stockpiled grass, swath grazing, corn grazing etc? It should be possible to raise cattle or bison etc. without burning fossil fuels for most of the year. And without buying external feed sources.

Have you found a way to eliminate tillage/disturbance?

Does the NFU have any demonstration farms where they are proving the viability of these methods? Proof of concept under local conditions would be more effective than thousands of agrologists or government decree

I know I come across as cynical on topics such as this, but I genuinely do think that there are much more sustainable farming methods possible, and profitable ways to reduce external inputs. As far as I can tell, organic as currently defined does not meet either of those goals.

Yeah CC seeing you are advocating for these changes are trying any of this on your farm? I play around with some multi year multi species covers to improve soils and reduce need for fertilizer. I like experimenting and I’m kind of cheap. Alright to preach but unless you are practicing some of it you’re just full of shit like everything else you say here.
