With the recently released report from NASA with actual data proving that Canada does not emit CO2 and actually sinks more than we produce, why do we feel we have to achieve more than 80% renewable.

Can you say it another way? Canada doesn't emit CO2.

How can you emit less than ZERO?

Its going to take longer than 2035. Especially if the " free market" conservatives change their stripes and pick winners and losers instead of letting the market decide in Alberta.

Saskatchewan and Alberta say net zero by 2050. Only 15 years different than the feds.
So in what locations is new hydro feasible and makes sense? Because you're NFU doesn't seem to support any new hydro.
And there has never been any such thing as letting the market decide. There have been mandates and subsidies and special terms and conditions for renewables from the very start. If the free market were actually free to decide, and they had to sell their production under the same terms that reliable power does, there wouldn't be a solar panel or windmill in this entire country.

I will leave hydro site selection up to the utilities and regulators.

The deregulated market in Alberta is a prime example of why solar and wind are expanding fast in Alberta. Lower generation costs and increasing market demand.

The terms are negotiated between the providers, customers and the landowners. All written into contracts and approved by the regulators.

Did you think they were doing it because it doesn't make money?

Why would a free market libertarian want to get in the way of private business? LOL

Such as the utilities and regulators who approved Site C in BC? Then the NFU still opposed it.

          There goes that excuse.

Well that's the NFU decision not mine.

But why would a free market libertarian like you want to get in the way of private business? LOL

So the NFU isn't a democratic organization? The members and executives don't have any input into their policy decisions? Where do their policies originate then? And why would you continue to be a member if they ignore your opinions?

Subsidizing and mandating renewable energy, then giving them a preferential deal to sell non dispatchable power at the same rate as reliable dispatchable electricity is the farthest thing from the free market. Those policies are literally getting in the way of private business, it is called crony capitalism. A parasite on the free market.

I am all for the free market, it doesn't exist in the generation industry.

So you are privy to the contract terms and conditions between all electricity generators and consumers in Alberta?

My my thats quite the position you have! LOL

That is all public information if you would like to look it up.
If you can find an exception, please let me know. Is there any solar or wind generator who has the penalties for not delivering dispatchable power? And is there any fossil fuel generator who doesn't have penalties for not delivering dispatchable power when they said they would?
That is beside the point, you are deflecting again. Who makes the decisions about the NFU policy, if not the members such as yourself?
