On the CBC today:â€Family ditches electric truck on drive fro east Winnipeg to Chicago after charging troubles.â€
Highlights. Person bought the truck for $115000 in January. Spent an additional $16000 installing chargers at his home and business and upgrading his electrical panel. Truck has a rated range of 515 km. Left on his trip. First charge at Fargo North Dakota. 350 kms, charged from 10% to 90% for $56. The trouble began in Albertville, Minn., the only fast charger brought up a faulty connection message on his truck. Headed to another charger in Elk River, Minn., it wouldn’t work either. With 15 kilometres left on his battery and no fast charger in range he got it towed to a Ford dealership and rented a Toyota 4Runner to finish his trip. Now he just uses his truck to commute 100 kms round trip daily to work. A very expensive vehicle for this purpose lol. Obviously real life experience showed the rated range is exaggerated.
