In my travels around Sask in the last month to me it sure looks like there was canola fields that did not the needed rate of fertilizer this spring. I know of guys that spend x amount of dollars on fert each and use whatever that buys them. I think many just didn't put lots of that real expensive fertilizer down this spring. Added to that you can sure tell on many fields in canola and peas where no fungicide was used. I think disease loses this fall may be severe. I'm thinking that carry out will be less and coupled with that reduced production from last year. Could be wrong though.

It’s been a cool Aug. so far and crop isn’t changing much. Lots of drowned out spots that are now full of weeds like barnyard grass and ladies thumb so I have been mowing a few of them that are easy to get to.
It would be a monumental task to hit them all!

I've seen many cereal fields in my local travels that appear not to have had any fertilizer.

This would be smaller/part time/mixed farms.

The results of the experiment are stark. Could have bought a lot of expensive fertilizer for the difference.

Hopefully the forecast with sun and warmer temperatures hold through the first week of Sept
it’s desperately needed in many areas . Later crops need to be pushed big time now

Certainly a bad yr for some of weeds like barnyard grass and foxtail barley.
Recent travels fom PA, Nipawin, Kelvington,Carrot River, Aylsham, the NE in general I see a lot of weeds coming through the crop in wet areas especially, indicating thin crop.
The areas that are drown out look to be only a small part of the loss as the rest of the field is also not great.
Like SF says, mud is a dud.
            Really stating to show now.

Some really nice, but more poor looking than originally thought.

The frustration for me is the tractor only has 3600 hours on it. How the **** does a tranny only last that long?
82k for a drop in reman tranny in my 485 steiger back in 2022. Your saying in 4 urs the price almost doubled? my tractor ironically had 3800 hrs on it

Yes they are, but that is how new price for any equipment is 1 million or more.

You must have been close to my place.
I have likely the worst canola crop of my farming career this year and dockage is going to be brutal.
If they are forecasting a record canola crop it’s quite evident they never looked at mine.

Just took a drive south to Indian head then back to Regina from the farm last night.

wow south of Balcarres to Indian head is really nice, heavy dirt held its ground this year very well.

a guy spraying canola last night south of town.

peas getting harvested and lentils done.
