Neighbor combined his peas low 30's about 1/2 of last years crop. Early wheat looks the best and sunflowers but canola is pretty hit and miss in the area. And there is a lot less canola around here when you go for a drive.
Friday Crop Report on a Thursday, second week August.

Fall desiccation will ramp up this week in this area on crops seeded before the mid may rain / snow .
Heavy fog again this morning with cool overnight temps . Tomorrow morning will be iffy in a few areas if clear
Rains continue across NW Sask , nothing real heavy but nearly daily north and west of here .
Crop maturity slowed the past week , definitely need a few weeks of sun and warm temps north of Hwy 16
Did a trip the deal on a liquid fertilizer cart NW of Rosetown . Variable crop maturity all the way , definitely see the drier area south of Biggar . Still very decent crops although will not be as big as crop as last year south of Hwy 16 .
Early seeded crops are close to full maturity everywhere from Rosetown north the the Forrest line
Later seeded crops definitely need 2-3 weeks
Hail damaged crops stick out like light bulbs in streaks all through most areas

If you can’t afford the new million dollar price of machinery, then be prepared to fixed the old wore out stuff.
They got you either way. They jack the price of parts in lieu of not buying the new or newer equipment.
Everyone thought elevators were the biggest crooks.

Went out to check the wheat and barley this afternoon. Wheats a 100 days Wednesday so getting anxious to get something sprayed. Couldn't believe the seeds are still soft and can indent them with finger nail. Maybe Saturday after Wednesdays heat.
Barley heads are sideways starting to bend so Thursday after the chance of rain.

Have a section of flax very close to ready to combine no descication needed, shes torched. Looked very nice but needed a rain in July. Cereals, canola..... all will be ready in two weeks with or without any juice. Lentils were a bit of a disappointment, too wet early on. Lentils only need moisture twice once after seeding and once in the pot.Last edited by biglentil; Aug 17, 2026, 22:06.

Some decent stands around here. Won’t be thinking of going till September though. Kind of cold foggy mornings lately. Enough moisture to finish filling greenfeed. Glad I didn’t skimp on fertilizer but probably could’ve cranked more on the wheat. Sure see the fields fertilizer didn’t get put on at a great amount.

Needed a change here , kinda went outside the box as usual, got till end of September to confirm drill
Will keep the SR Seed Master for now but the very trusted ole Bourgault kinda miled out for us as a cereal drill . Nearly 20 years , owes us zero
Put together something Kinda unique
80 ft seed master , 15 inch , paired row with 550 bus on board seed tank with ultra pro
Adding twin liquid 28 and alpine with full sectional seed and fert .
Found a beauty barely used liquid cart , 5000 gal N single tank with a 1200 gal alpine tank to pull behind with huge floatation.
With only 64 shanks , single seed fan and electric drives , will be able to pull it fairly easy with just our ole 535 case .
the whole seeding outfit will be around $650,000
yes crazy , but …… just a new Bourgault 1300 bus cart is $900,000 ….. then add drill , then add the $1 mill tractor to pull it .
It’s all crazy , but it just might pay to think differently
Time will tell
caddy does have dual 800’s , just not on for transport
foot print will be very minimal

Yes we will because we do split Sulfur either with bio sul on our own dirt and longer term rents or streaming on liquid S .Originally posted by Sodbuster View PostImpressive cart, even without the duals. Can you do a whole quarter with one fill?
Will be 160 ac fill match with cart at 75-80% target N
The balance will be streamed on depending on N price in fall , or conditions after seeding .
Over 50 % of the time we don’t get enough moisture to utilize more than 75% of the N we apply. So very cautious after 40 years of knowing moisture patterns for our area
