Friday Crop.Report on a Thursday we have only two weeks left in June

Around edmonton area its.. not good.
crops were seeded late. 2 weeks atleast in most areas.
3 to 6 inches a day or 2 after seeding (depending on area ) severely setback an already late crop. Canolas have come up spotty on lighter soil ( probably dirt washed into furrow) . Barley is yellowed up basically everywhere and really struggling.

PEAS holding on.
wheat holding on.
Mosr growers ive talked to couldnt get at 10 to 15% of their acres. If they did.. those are flooded out with more rains having taken away another 5 to 15%.
Last yr it was about 5 total acres...
On our farm we didnt seed 280 . Almost 10%.

We have sprayed up just about everything and are very easilydown another 10%.

Alot of acres to the north and west of edmonton ( 1 to 2 hrs out( didnr get seeded or got floated.
and not just canola.

Barley. Wheat.. cereals. Floated. Not ideal.

Weather man calling for 2 to 3 inches this weekend in the area which will polish off any of the acres that are attempting a comeback.

Willing to bet this is the coldest june in our areas history ( or definitely top 3) .
Longer varieties of canola will be a dud.
usually in our area we are fungiciding July 1st to 10th on canola.
there wont be any bolted canola by then let alone 20 to 50%.

Since may have had a day above 25.

I agree and the market thinks swift current will make up the short fall.

Last falls numbers were bullshit as most emptied bins at 17.49 or higher. Cupboards are bare plus one other thing most of the big dogs hauled last fall and one was out by new year.

Not in the game anymore, but still pay attention to what’s happening with ag. Took a little drive went around 40 miles and noticed tons of canola and lentils.
Would have to guess 45-45-10%. The 45s are canola and lentils the 10 is durum or wheat. Most yrs guys back In the day would put cereals on pulse ground, now it’s canola.
Durum and wheat prices are in the toilet .. which is nothing new. Also, crop insurance is paying the most on coverage for canola. From other drives I’m seeing the same. Canola acres are big. Yes, some acres will be lost to this or that but in the good areas there are tons of canola.
I know of one massive farm that has tens of thousands in with zero issues.

i heard of 1 guy ( confirmed) floating canola yesterday. Lol

What does one wish to gain... in any feasible sense... by floating canola on june 19th. North of edmonton.

Its absurd. I hope They take his farming license away.

A 120$/ ac cover crop? Lol.

Crop was recovering somewhat here east of Edmonton by yesterday but getting drowned out now again. There was a debate as to which side of the guarantee it will be on but that debate is now ended. Crop insurance here we come. The high spots will make something but many acres drowned out and will get sprayed out as the crop is being replaced by weed growth later in the summer. Have not had to do that since 2020. Managed to seed almost everything just before first flooding. Next year country as the fat lady is singing on 2026. Old crop wheat in bins will get the bins full this fall.
