Lots of people happy about the 4 inches of rain here in Alberta, but I would have been very happy with 1 inch. Still some acres to be seeded around here. However, I think there was a lot of damage done by the flooding especially on canola. Cereals that did not drown will be mostly alright but I think a lot of canola is crop insurance including my own due to the reasons you describe. I cut back due to the fertilizer shake down this spring but where is that fertility now? Small, recently emerged canola will not be able to fish for it as it does not have any root yet.

I am curious did you have rain in May before this? We had just over 3 inches here and are very thankful. We were bone dry, we had 0 rain in May. We had no sub soil moisture either. We had little water accumulation from this rain event.

First off your canola germination looks good. Seeded with your SR? Do you have the Ultra Pro canola meter on your SR? If so does this allow you to reduce your seeding rate? Have you ever added AMS to your Liberty when spraying canola?

One note with more rain I'm hearing some guys are just not going to keep seeding.

Hade 2 rain events in May prior that produced not quite a 1/4 inch each. Just got another half inch out of a thunderstorm. My land does not drain well as it is solonetzic and gets some run off from the neighbors. Have river channels running across it all week. We had some reserve moisture around here from all the April snow and last fall so was not critical dry. Canola going to be patchy.

Anyone shutting down the drill will have a hard time collecting wet acres from crop insurance. Don’t think it’s in the bag if you say it was too wet. They will look at the area, and if there are guys that are done seeding and you aren’t, they will try to deny you. You have to have tried your hardest. You have to have pushed til June 20th. You need to leave huge ruts in your unseeded fields to prove it was too wet. You need to have tried every crop option. You need to have left over seed and fertilizer. Crop Insurance will try their hardest to deny your wet acre claim in times like this.
