Good morning! It’s been a busy week, but we’re catching up quick.
Saskatchewan farmers can really move when they’re pushed. They have to — the further you get into June, the later the crop matures, and one good frost can wreck it overnight.
The last few days have been scorching hot. Not sure what’s with all the weather warnings already — this is just the start of summer.
Early-seeded wheat and barley are already up and looking good. The later-seeded stuff is starting to poke through now that the snow is gone.
I have Sask seeding at 49% seeded, well behind the five-year average. We should hit 70% tonight at our farm toda or tomorrow.
Mud has been a pain, but the wind is drying things out fast — maybe a bit too fast. Rain that was forecast for the west side isn’t showing up, and the east is looking at another week of heat and dry conditions.
Weeds are really starting to take off now. Saw plenty of guys spraying yesterday in 60 km/h winds — stuff blowing all over the place.
Lots of fields getting rolled in our area.
How about where you are? What’s the seeding situation like on your end.
Also total rain in may, 2 inches rain so far plus snow.
