    Slow start to seeding

Definitely going to be a vastly slower start than last year north of hiway 16
The cool trend looks to be in place till mid May at this point .
Some areas in the NW won’t get started before they were finished last year .
Good to see a complete reversal of drought conditions North of 16 , the northern forests , lakes and rivers desperately needed a recharge .

Late May here if NOT warm soon! Be many corners around wet spots/ditches!

But in 1980, it never rained till July, so who knows...

Couple weeks before we’ll even be able to get the drill out of storage.

Almost May here and the runoff hasn’t really stated yet. Big snow banks everywhere that aren’t melting because it’s crazy cold for this time of year.
My mother used to say the water should start running on the 7th of April and peak on the 10th. I am not young anymore and I don’t remember runoff ever being this late!

Lots of swans and cranes in the area now waiting for the ice to recede off the marsh and lakes to the east. And of course my usual canada goose nested on the top row of bales watching me load silage every morning. -4c this morning

How effective are the water cannons? Will they draw the slough down real far? Can you shoot the water far enough or in some cases will it end up running back to where it's pumped from? Slough pumps are kinda slow and ALOT of work. Lots of small sloughs means lots of moving, big sloughs take alot of time. It's work for a young and energetic man.

Sometimes trenching doesn't make sense if you have a trench that is so bad it's no better than the area you drained. Then the neighbors get excited when the see the yellow farm( construction) equipment in the fields.

Water cannons work if you have someone to sit on the tractor all day and night. They do leave a rut where you back into slough but they will draw water down to nothing. Most large farmers here have one , some two.
