    Fertilizer and other things

    It is just brutal.

    A decade lost .

Canada has the ability to export oil and gas.

There are the resources here to make and export Urea.

    What do we do?

Canadians elect a retard to say there is no business case for any of it.

What happens? A hiccup in the Strait of Hormuz blows up the price of fertilizer that no Canadian retailer ever purchases anyway. So Canadian farmers get absolutely phucked.

Att the same time the welfare cases in the east contract LNG from Australia.

And Carney is out blowing the CPP pension funds around the world.

Seriously we have retards running this country .

Disclaimer: I may retarded for continuing to farm.

It wouldn't surprise me me in the least to see someone build a urea plant in Sask. As long as natural gas is cheap enough it should make sense. The FNA plant will never happen. It is more and more apparent that we need more here at home. Far better to be a fert exporter than a importer. Phos is the big one that we cant do anything about. The way things are going by early May there will not be any N available from most retailers in the west. My marketing guys have been saying for a while now that it is imperative to have N on hand to have supply. I hear most N prices have been pulled this week, with Iran on top of all the other issues.

Why doesn't the Sask Government build it? It's a bit of a mega project. Instead of relying on exporting LNG, why not make nitrogen fertilizer at home instead of importing it?

The Genesis project might have image issues with its "association" with FNA(or it's associates).

If the Gov was looking for seed capital I'd be more comfortable investing with our province than...

Yara looked at twinning or mirroring the plant at Belle Plaine a few years ago. Apparently at that time it was too expensive due to other projects , resources to build with escalation costs etc.

It would have been game changer on the prairies for nitrogen fertilizer.

Now all the fertilizer manufacturers are on the same page an decide it would be great to shutdown for maintenance in April and May.

Can any MP spell the word collusion???? I doubt it.

Yara and Nutrien both are doing their shutdowns April and May. Why you ask? Yara and Nutrien are both partners of the WEF.

Would the opposition parties run on this as a campaign pledge?

When Saskferco ( now Yara ) was built by the government it was to alleviate what is happening today.

Devine's idea was to get it built and sell it as a turnkey venture that would no longer rely on government.

We all know what happened - it was given away BUT the plant is still there and it isn't extracting government dollars.

So investments that turn out to no longer be tit suckers are not socialist , just reducing the risk during the build.

Had Saskferco been left in government hands , it probably been returning quite nicely to the general revenue fund or been mothballed. Who knows.

Now that liability or ROI is with YARA. Can be argued both ways.

One thing is for certain, with the natgas reserves there is no reason there isn't more fertilizer plants in Western Canada.

                  Both,
why export natural gas when we can value add at home ( sounds like a pipe line dream)

I dont understand why anyone would think that having localized fertilizer plants producing here in the prairies would change anything OTHER than supply.

Does anyone think that price would be lower if we had 3 nutriens producing urea in red deer?
its all priced out of new orleans and with a globalized economy ...that means these hiccups affect everything. Case in point... diesel.
Northwest upgrader is producing diesel right here outside of edmonton. Do we get a cheaper price? Lol.

If 100 Farmers got together and built a urea plant... you think that somehow the urea would become cheaper....but only in a localized area? Mmm no. Sorry. Those days have passed.

I understand that supply and demand dictate...but when everything is priced by traders who are running on cocaine and rumors.. we dont stand a chance. Plus.. why would those farmers want cheaper urea, when they could just make more per unit selling it at market value than using it in their own field.

Its the same thing can be said about crop values. You cant really have it both ways.

India has a poor crop.... pulse prices will increase...

i fear that the " lowering ANY costs" by production ship...has long since sailed.

And as for australia shipping to quebec.. its just cheaper. If all the workers and builders of LNG pipelines were willing to work for peanuts.. then yeah, maybe a pipeline could get built. But i dont know many of my buddies here in fort sask who are welders in the oil patch that are going to work for * checks web* 20 to 30 k per yr like a chinese welder does!

We cant build a hospital in 2 weeks because our labour isnt slave labour.
the approval process/ site selection...etc.. can definitely be streamlined to shorten the build times down....but things need to be done properly and transparently. Otherwise... everyone and their dog will whine about.. brookfield...P3 school building schemes...... snc lavalin...etc.

Seriously tho... we all KNOW a revamped railroad to churchill would help western canadian farmers... so if brookfield stepped up and financed the whole thing..who cares?

if the indigenous people want to throw a bid in and build it? Great.
Use their dollars...regardless of how they got them.

Also... i hear guys whining about the cost of fertilizer ( it sucks...i agree) but none of us are cheering the increased price of commodities...
