A drought will be a real disaster with those coverage levels.

Who can afford not to take crop insurance is the real question. Our farm has been fortunate enough to miss most of the serious droughts so our coverage amounts are decent, but there is no way I would ever opt out of crop insurance.

Too much risk not to take. Almost a roll of the dice for most of the marbles.

With all the droughts we have had the last 10 years can’t afford not to take crop insurance. Crop insurance won’t cover cost of production but a crop disaster without crop insurance would be devastating.

Unfortunately after several years of below average crops , crop insurance becomes just another expense unless a total wipe out as coverage levels decline
Even then coverage levels like as shown become well below the COP on most average farms

Everyone in my area for the last decade. SW corner has had bad crops for that time frame. Not all of us live in the high moisture for 100 years type of areas.
