The price then was plenty high so could not see it going much higher for spring but the cartel has still been able to push it up. When seeding is late and it may be this year as lots of snow falling here today, I have been able to buy urea after May long for less than the price at the end of April and it looks like that will happen this year. Cheaper to buy wheat and corn than urea right now.
Well I got quotes yesterday. I needed a bit more fertilizer. All I can say is holy s##t!! The dealer I pre bought from in December was much more reasonable. His price on Urea was $820, he said if I hadn’t bought from them earlier it would have been over $900, he wasn’t specific. The other dealer was, $960 immediate take home, this dealer was actually cheaper than where I bought in December, certainly not now. This same dealer quoted $720 potash and $714 for 20.5-0-0-24. Both which are up from December especially 20.5-0-0-24. The one salesman said this spike in fertilizer seems to be centered on western Canada and one company is to blame, Nutrien!!!

Well after a $10 US per ton break last week the price has gone to new highs just yesterday in the March NOLA futures. Record premiums are maintained for western canadian prices above the NOLA price of course. Guess the rented land will see reduced application. Those fields got no rain last year so the residual is fairly good. Seeding some red clover and green manure summer fallow going to oats for next year could be a rotation that works now. Make summer fallow great again. Despite 4 players involved (Nutrien, CF, Yara, and Koch) cartel discipline is primo in the urea space here.

All farmers wanted was another nitrogen plant, and all they got was another soap opera.

I give a big salute to the member on this forum who, around 10 or 15 years ago, said if you look up all the legal shenanigans the Mann bros have been involved in you would stay far, far away from this project. I can't remember who it was but they deserve a giant I-told-you-so post.

They want every last dime of the record crop of Canola , Wheat , Peas , Barley , Lentils and everything from 2025
They all believe there is more money to take from farmers .
Is what it is , be thankful if you had a huge crop , for those that never things are much fun

Is land free in your area?

At current land values, how do you pencil rent/ mortgage payments/ opportunity costs on green manure summer fallow? Could you net $50/ acre in N value after all expenses?

I think that’s the price where I’d say that’s ok I won’t get any then.

The whole industry is running on the limited spiel going on years now. “Limited tonne special” now it’s “very limited tonnes special”for buying grain, and book now or you won’t get it for canola seed and fertilizer.

Seems the Industry want you to commit early, which puts you at risk of being on the wrong side of the market. But they don't want to be long many tonnes at the end of planting season.

I guess if they're only netting $10/t profit, being long too much could erase profits. Disclosure: Full sarcasm intended.
