I watch some of Manitoba Ag days. One agronomist said most of his farms have 60-95 lbs an N available after the not so big verticillium ravaged canola crop.
US dropping def should put more N available for farmers

I am not sure DEF is being dropped, just the engine derate strategies. But I hope I am wrong.

If I'm not mistaken 46-0-0 could be in a shortage due to two or three plants going down simultaneously.

Iran shutting down the Straight of Hormuz could be an issue yet, a bunch of urea is exported though there. Iran, Saudi, Qatar and UAE all export urea, phos, ammonia, and sulfur through it.

And here Western Canada sits with unexportable natural gas due to retards in Ottawa that would make Canada a major urea producer . Instead retails jack prices because the 9 months they have to bring in foreign urea is not logistically possible.

Retails and urea producers in North America are in a collusionary relationship and government , conservative MPs are too phucking stupid to figure it out to the detriment of farmers.

My retailer tells me they make less than 10 dollars a tonne on urea. Same one that doesn't understand why I won't pour the expenses to my crop because I might break even.

Retailers have a spreadsheet of cumulative sales year to year, from that they can make purchases in a 9 month period from July to March to get foreign urea if they actually wanted to.

They are making more than 10 bucks a tonne.

Keep in mind since the US administration gave wheat farmers over $100 per acre , they can afford fertilizer. And chances are that is why it is moving higher here with the chance of shortages.

It’s too bad that FNA squandered their chance to build a nitrogen plant fifteen plus years ago. It could have been up and running by now and western Canada we will always have cheap NG, what better place could you find to build it.

NOLA, fertilizer priced according to how far your from New Orleans. If farmers could ever get their act together or a Co-op their could be some serious money made but I doubt that would ever happen in my lifetime.
