Never did any after school activities either. Wasn't encouraged.
When I first met my wife she was aghast to learn that I didn't know how to relax, and had no desire to relax. Apparently sitting on a beach doing nothing is supposed to be relaxing. I'd never done either before. Doing nothing turns out to be most stressful activity I can imagine.
Fishing is a close second. I did try that once.

At one time the work was my play as Corb Lund sings in S Lazy H.
Oh I've learned how to relax, or at least make a good effort. It's in the mind, not where you're at physically. Anxiety a bitch.

Kinda makes you wonder how tough things are in Canada when you see all those cabins in the country and the ones down in the warm winter spots owned by Canadians. Have spent a week on a beach but after that ya better find something else to do and you usually can.

Help me understand why every thread ends up in an argument based on some sort of tribal belief system.

Lake Winnipeg lots appear cheaper than Sylvan Lake lots, which is a puddle.
My sister's family can only afford to camp in an old coal mine out in no where prairie.

By some measure, you may have it better there.

Few farms have actual oil revenue.

Nothing personal, I've just had it with ill-informed AB bashing.

Never got into it as an adult.
No close lakes, no friends into it, boats don't make bushels. I don't camp or own an rv.
Guns work for me cause I'm lazy. And they're a solitary endeavor.
Parents worked us hard, but fortunately? for us realized that we were only going to be young once.

We played well organized community baseball, fastball and hockey, highschool was fastball and basketball.

Girls and boys teams travelled together by bus to other highschools throughout the school year to compete, great life lessons with fond memories were made.

Wouldn't trade those experiences for any amount of money.

Back in the 50’s and 60’s curling, hockey, broombaland maybe football and track and field were main activities for kids, today such a wide range for all ages. whew parents are busy hauling kids around. Times change, parenting has changed. As kids, we loved hard work, picking rocks, bales, shoveling grain, cleaning bins, weird, eh?

I know a few BTO's that are on quest to grow always that doesn't make them happy. You can't take it with you and I know guys who are trying to set there kids up with something clear to me that they don't want. Back in the 80's I went to a talk in North Dakota of guy my Dad followed, by the name of Hiram Drache. He wrote many books on great plains agriculture and the business of farming. I'm not sure if his books are still available anywhere. I knew from his age back then that he must have past on and a quick google affirmed this. By his writing back then what are witnessing now has happened before.
A link to his info for those interested.
Hiram Drache, professor emeritus of history at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., died Oct. 17, 2020, at age 96. Drache had a regional and national impact for his authorship of agricultural history books. He was a controversial advocate of larger-scale corporate-style farming business, including…

If you really want to know, Waste some time reading the tribal poster who was banished to rural issues, and the 2 posters who come to his defense every time. They set the tone years ago.
Even in his absence, the other two make sure it keeps spilling over into this forum.
