I've been hearing that the sky is falling all of my life.
Wheels do turn of course but you never know where in the cycle you are or how long you yourself have left.
50 year events ensure most don't have a memory.
A string of years with $7 wheat isn't enough.
Saw a deal here for $160 rent.
At least 6, 4th gen operations lined up. Well heeled, intelligent.
Will never meet the landowners. Landowners will never sell either.
I see no demand reduction here. Yet.
    Price reduction further away.

Edit. I do wish the FCC would quit issuing that bloody report.

To be fair , the sky does fall on farmers. Everyone has neighbours that have hit hard times due to weather , bad decisions , or the economy just turns for no reason like the 80s. High interest kicked the shit out some farmers. Lower grain prices. Sometimes it was because the previous generation didn't have the moldy money to help the next generation, etc etc etc.

The first payment is easy, the next 9, 10 or 20 are the unknown.

We are competing against the US treasury. In the last 2 year a wheat farmer in the states has received $100cdn per acre.

We don't have that type of support but our markets are based on US exchanges that are affected by that level of support.

That's because they understand the value to the economy of agriculture in the USA and the older I get the less that politicians understand in Canada. A perfect example is closing more AAFC stations while at the same time they split their budget into operational and investment expenses. Most would view those facilities as investments.

Hope this makes sense, I am no rocket scientist.

        1931, 1981, 2031?
Each look different than the other.
But the result is a reset.
Just unsure if the upcoming will be a bloodbath like the previous.
        How many farmers see 2?
        A 10-20 year recovery.
By 2041 how many hands on farmers will there be? Each one a multi-millionaire.
Andjelic believes farmland a good investment to hand his heirs.
It could take a lifetime to prove him right or wrong.

Seen enough blood baths since the 70's to know to takes a long time and hard work to get that land thing out of the liability column and into the asset side. Can turn a nice guy into a (GET OFF OF MY LAWN) type of person. Don't know if I an doing my kids or grandkids any favors.

If you've had cows since the 70's, you've earned any attitude you want.

There is a pile of land listed east of here .
40,000 plus under rent and about 2900 owned .. Hafford area to NB
              Been extremely quiet.
Thats a lot of land dumped on the market all at once plus a few other farms that add up to over an additional 15,000 acres available in that area recently since fall
Add that to the fact that that entire area has had only one decent crop in about 5 years , will be interesting to see how all that shakes out .

Had a friend in BC tell me that native bands have bought a couple of the BC ranches that were for sale.

Did they buy or was it a partnership with $$$$ from the federal government?

What if that was the end goal the entire time?

Much easier to raise capital if you have a guaranteed profitable sale funded by the taxpayers at the end.

In other words - support the large farms before they face the reality that others face.
