The problem with Canada is the problems caused are not of our making. Explain how Chinese EV tariffs should impact the canola industry . And whose fault is it? Farmers for having some success in a drought year. Or is the governments fault for not addressing the issue at all.

The impacts of different political discourse from other countries should not bear financial distress to Canada's farmers.

The real precedent should be looked at is when Canada signed a trade deal and reduced the dairy trade by a small amount but compensated the dairy people a substantial amount for the loss along with the guarantee that dairy would never be used in trade negotiations again.

So the question remains - why are Canadian farmers not compensated for trade politics either done by the Canadian government or other governments indirectly.

The long and short of all this is - Canadian farmers should be compensated the same way other industries are and the way other countries are.

People can say be more efficient or get larger for economies of scale. But eventually it defaults to the same outcome.

And ignoring farmers is not a successful path for a country like Canada.
