Big solar farms going up around Regina, on at Gray, now one at Lajord. There’s no stopping the lunacy. Big high-voltage lines ruining the value of our farms.

Alot of that southwest country is where solar panels belong. New grid due to younger cities. Desert scrubland that you can buy ( literally online ) for 50$/ ac. Junk. And where its dry and sunny. Your post is actually showing how those solar projects are put in responsible places....
Up here we have solar capacity limits on these solar projects because our grids cant handle the upload. Atleast in alberta we do .
neat fact for all you that hate renewables
Iowa.. a heavvvvvily red voting state..and trump fan.. and farmers.. receive more than of their power generation thru... wind! True story!
Interesting to see if your power costs come down. Does sask work on a blended cost per kwh so its all included ? Or do u split it like alberta where we can see our transmission cost and power costs.Last edited by goalieguy847; Nov 4, 2025, 20:41.

It ain't all scrub land that they are putting solar panels on. In fact I would venture to say very little is on scrub land.Originally posted by goalieguy847 View PostAlot of that southwest country is where solar panels belong. New grid due to younger cities. Visited friends in El Centro a few years back. It's a big vegetable growing area. Thousands and thousands of flat irrigated land.
The year we were there 21,000 acres were converted to solar panels. 21,000.

Quick google search and you can see those solar panels... interesting they put them on irrigation land west of el centro .
totalling up about 13 k acres..
However, i think those people realize that the lack of water has forced their hand? Ive always laughed when visiting that area ( or even vegas) when you see ...
Scrub desert.. desert..scrub desert..scrub desert.....
BOOM. Green grass and trees. Its hard to fathom that pretty much every sq inch of those cities and areas are irrigated just to keep anything growing alive. And that nearly every sq inch of those areas have been planted. To be honest.. i think the absurdity of irrigating crops there is LESS absurd than solar panels.
Wheat in Yuma arizona? What? Why?
cotton around palm springs? Get real.
.
it honestly seems like solar panels are the BETTER fit! Someone is making a buck down there.. ill assume its govt loans and absurdly high " land rents" to land owners.
as for solar in and around regina.. it should be going on crap land. Just like here in alberta.
Im all for solar farms. But it should all be put on hold for 5 yrs until solar panels become 50% efficient and have a longer life span. Plus.. has anyone happened to peek at the tariffs that USA and canada have on importing solar panels? Its absurd when you think about it.
150 ish% by canada on chinese solar panels... and usa has some wild tariffs depending on location. Up to 3500% on those from cambodia/thailand/ vietnam. Both countries use these to stop " dumping" from chinese companies...but the number of north american companies that make solar panels is virtually NIL. How stupid is that ( kind of like tariffing chinede evs.. but thats a bit of different animal with data collextion etc)
Why wouldnt you want china to dump solar panels here.. imagine if it didnt cost 200 k for our farm to put up solar panels that wont even totally cover our annual costs for transmission AND power usage. Thats absurd.
Id love to buy solar panels for dirt cheap! That should be a tariff discussion... drop the solar panel tariff canada has on china and they could drop the canola tariff!

The wheat in Yuma is all durum and grown for the huge pasta market of southern california. the straw is also very valuable for the absolutely huge dairy industry down there as well. The feedlots are all full of black/white Holsteins. all of this is market driven... not pushed by the big climate industrial complex. Those big mirrored complexes at Tonopah are slated to close next year... billions down the drain and countless birds fried in the process.
