Not all varieties are good for swathing anymore. Too short and then no stubble to roll into. I do lots of swathing at very late stage in pod shatter varieties. L340, L343, L345 are the best for late stage swathing usually as they have the best pod integrity and pretty good long legs usually and allows a foot or more stubble height although L345 does give trouble sometimes cause it will lodge. L230 is ok but not at the same level. Pioneer 511 was ok for pod integrity last year, and great legs and stubble height. Brett Young 4000LL, which is not a pod shatter variety, did noticeably shell more than anything I did last year, and too short with no stubble to roll into. It blew when others didn’t.
I would think Reglone and swathing would be similar for drydown, but possibly Reglone faster if you get good coverage. But seed physiological maturity, with either is about the same if there is any green seeds as it is said it takes about 6 weeks for seed to physically mature after harvest. If Reglone and combine quick is the choice, that would be grain that needs to be watched close in storage I would think especially if combined in the hot weather or there could be risk of heating.
