The sad part about it is that BYD electric vehicles would be an incredible fit in the 8 large cities in canada ( toronto, montreal, vancity, calgayree, etown, winni, saskabush)

If they did drop the ev tariff and we imported some... i imagine they would sell promptly and be a great fit for those who utilize electric vehicles.

I dont believe canada currently builds any evs here??? Could be wrong..
Absolutely agree , if they truly want to get the EV market going there is a fit and you are very correct .
There is no EV manufacturing in Canada to protect , and won’t be in the near future .
This whole debacle has cost people choice in EV’s if they wish and farmers lost revenue and it makes no sense whatsoever.
If they had reasonably priced BYD EV’s the EV market would get really established from those who want to go that route and it fits . The market would take off in many area like you said
Then they could drop the stupid mandate forced on everyone coming up .
But only if China drops their tariffs
Would be a win win to be honest , but for some reason the Liberal thinking is so assbackwards it’s infuriating when , yes it only costs farmers directly due to round about tariffs.
If not , get direct payments out to farms for the financial burden on us by their stupid policies and not understanding trade relations

As far as crop report goes well the last 48 hours has not been kind too many in area.
We actually went from being somewhat optimistic for the first time this year to a stunned sick feeling . We are not alone , dozens of farms in area in same boat .
just got started the lentils , got 240 ac off Wednesday afternoon then all hell broke lose , literally.
our complete harvest plan is now upside down and will require a ton of extra work . Most the straight cut canola was hit and will have not choice but to swath or we will lose way way to much leaving it stand . It will have to be managed very carefully to save what we can.
about 1200 ac of wheat is hit bad and 1/2 that we are not sure what to do with 600 that is pounded flat.
The amount of volunteer grain on the ground is incredible and going to cause major problems within 2 weeks .
we were on lentils but will have to leave them now as ground is way too wet to run headers on
Will have to change to peas when they dry up enough and get what left there . They are still standing but a lot shelled out from the hail and many pods are split and will shell within days .We will be able to cut above ground and keep headers off wet dirt … we hope .
Then hopefully get back to rest of lentils if ground firms up .
Wheat will be ready during that time as well and by then the hail damaged canola with have to be swathed , most likely very early mornings till wheat is ready .
Not ideal compared to the plan 48 hours ago but that’s farming , most on here understand and have been there. Nothing is ever easy
All the best laid plans and marketing in the world mean near zero when events like this happen.
Have to make changes and move on quickly cause Mother Nature could punish us again at anytime.
in the meantime will have to deal with hail insurance on nearly every acre.
Going to be a big challenge now

We had a very straight forward harvest plan , lentils , peas , seed wheat , then all the wheat , swath a bit of clearfield canola inbetween.
then just finish off harvest with the swathed canola then the balance of straight cut canola and a bit of barley .
was all in place and desicating was going along just right to carry out that plan .
Be great if Mother Nature could just play nice once in my farming career

My wife said earlier in August that Mother Nature is going to phuck everyone this year. Pulse crops were a real winner this year until the rains came . Now the spotty hail storms . It's just shitty for all , furrow.

The only thing left now is a frost for the late crops

Regarding Chinese EVs, there is some concern out there that they would be another Chinese surveillance machine, gathering intelligence about Canada for the Chinese government with secretly imbedded technology, listening to our conversations, tracking the vehicles whereabouts, vehicle backup and dash cams that send information back to China. They wouldn’t need to use weather balloons to spy on us, we’d just give them all the information.

Other countries (USA and others) banned Huawei from cellular and telecommunications. Did Canada ever follow suit?

Imagine if it was North Korea selling us cars, or cellphones, or telecommunications infrastructure, would we want them? Cause China is not much different.

I don’t think I want any Chinese products anymore. It’s all junk and doesn’t last. Chinese bearings you have to replace every year. Chinese gearboxes grenade every few years. New Chinese roller chain is as loose as the old North American chain you are replacing and the Chinese chain will break prematurely. Chinese tools don’t last. You are not saving any money if you have to replace stuff 3 times and then all the extra repair time. Anything household made in China is junk. Actually sick of China junk. We should just block all Chinese goods from coming to Canada.

Canola tariffs? Shouldn’t matter. Just stop selling your canola and hold out for a higher price. Farmers are in control of the price, not the companies.

Crops here, multiple planes are bombing fields, drifting into the neighbours crop, some canola swathing started, lentils, peas and rye combining started this week. Early wheat and barley is next. Local elevator texting they are fully booked until train arrives. Can you make money at $7 wheat, $7.50 peas and $13.70 canola, when yields are down and costs of everything through the roof?

I don’t think anyone selling canola now , or plans too so not sure about that comment.
Also what the canola price is today it’s $1 less than it should be because of the tariffs and will be regardless of markets action due to those tariffs, your missing that

Canola if it freezes this weekend will.have all.the regrowth turn to white shit. When they say plus 1 to 4 its going to be bad but the heat after will show results fast.

19.4 down to 18.6 or less mt canola crop is on its way.

The 41.2 bpa would be a miracle with our acreage this year with drought and less acres.

                So yea probably the 36.

The 5 over that will be taken back down come June.

This new way of guessing is a joke.
