Look... the easiest job in the world is to be the leader of the opposition...
But i sure dont hear pierre coming up with a solution. Yadda yadda yadda... criticize..criticize.. but no solution .
I want to hear a reporter ask pierre what he would do
and then say " well if you drop ev tariffs what happens to our auto sector" and then " what happens if trump imposes punishing tariffs on our grains?"
BUT. I see. Already.. carney has responded.
Say what you will about carney but the guy atleast understand how important grains and oil / gas are to the canadian economy.
Trudeau couldnt sort his way thru a menu...but carney SEEMS to get it. Hes saying most of the right things but will there be any action?
Again.. whats the silver bullet here?
Direct to farm subsidies would be a mistake.
maybe a large break on crop insurance or a ceba type low interest loan? ( whats different from that and direct to farm.subsidies tho....)
Im surprised that canola isnt down around 11$/ bushel in this situation.

Your right, Carney says most of the right things.
But I don't see anything that is actually any different than the last ten yrs?
He said he was going to revitalize the military with $8 billion. Just what people wanted to hear.
What does that actually amount to if 1/2 goes to some weird decarbonizing scheme that no one asked for?
It's all about what he wants, not what the people are hearing.

Asking “what ifs” don’t address nothing either , just deflecting the issue .
This should have been dealt with long before the Chinese slapped the tariffs on .
Now Carney been forced to say something at least .
What even is Canadas EV auto sector ?
How many actual Canadian made EV’s roll off the assembly line per day ?
Whats the value of the EV auto sector ? How many jobs and how much wealth created ?
just asking , never seen the numbers
Also not the entire Auto sector , just the EV portion.
We all know the billions of dollars the canola and pulse industry creates for western Canada and the tens of thousands of jobs as well
Not to mention that western Canadian farms are some of the most sustainable and environmentally sound in the world .
That’s why this needs attention and it’s finally getting some of the attention it deservesLast edited by furrowtickler; Aug 15, 2025, 07:31.

I suggested the CEBA style loan to my MP Aug 14th. A partial forgiveness due to political mistakes.
This is a year old issue and has had no attention paid to it.
The CCGA or other's offering advances should be interest free on all advances until the issue is resolved and the markets can go back to actual fundamentals not politics. That money could come from the tariffs on EVs . The EV industry isn't hurt in Canada as it non existent and going broke. And close to 100% taxpayer funded.
The interest on the $50 billion gave away already would go a long way to make farmers whole from the political incompetence.
Remember that American farmers are being given a adhoc acreage payment for the 2024 crop year. That too has affected the markets somewhat here.
There are some solutions
1. adhoc payment
2. Interest free advances
3. CEBA style with a percentage forgiven when trade issue resolved.
Given the liberal track record and the conservatives silence over the last year , I cant see any resolution soon.

The real question as you point out is what can practically be done? Removing EV tariffs would probably not change China’s mind and simply piss off Trump.
As for Carney being different than Trudeau!? He spends money like Trudeau. Still has the EV mandate like Trudeau. Still has the emissions cap like Trudeau. Still has the west coast tanker ban like Trudeau. Only difference is he talks about the need for economic growth. But I have yet to see any action.
