Do you think fentanyl would kill gophers effectively?

Seeing as how the federal government feels its OK to legalize , will it work on gophers?

Disclaimer: I don't drink or do drugs so I don't know where to buy .

Thats actually not a horrible idea. I would think its alot more gentle than poison.
Also... where is canada decriminalizing fentanyl?

Isnt it ironic that society legalizes or turns a blind eye to products that do terrible harm to people, while making it illegal to use products that might cause pain to animals. Traps and poisons etc.
Priorities. Aren't we compassionate...

We have shot and trapped a stupid amount of gophers this season. They're really not bad on our own land, and where they were, we shot and trapped them out. But some surrounding land has lots. We're trying to keep them back away from our land. What we noticed is early spring we shot quite afew, thinking we had a decent handle on them....until the new litters came out of the dens... then holy crap... shot a bunch more. Some areas appeared to be cleaned up pretty good until others moved in again from a bit further away. We continued to shoot...they finally might be slowing down their migration looking for a new home out of an over populated area. It seems you create a vacuum if you clean out a spot near an overpopulated area, especially if there are already burrows. It's a battle and began to feel like a "job".

If half the gophers we controlled were female and each of those had 4-6 in a litter next year... I can't imagine the dent we made in next year's population. But there will still be too many. Left unchecked the numbers can grow exponentially in 3-5 years, and they'll only spread looking for new habitat.

Poisoning has to occur in early spring before new grass appears.
Phostoxin is registered for control but you need an Applicator's license to be able to buy it.
People talk about gassing with anhydrous.
Don't kill natural predators even though badgers digging them out make a mess and fox dens are field hazards. Raptors... need trees to nest in.
Shooting requires time and skill and understanding neighbors.

I suspect this is somewhat area specific and might vary a bit, but time might be running out this season for large scale control.
But I'm all ears if anyone has ideas.

Try road flairs, not sure if it’s a rumour but I’ll bet they would be very effective.

Pyostoxin down the holes in the fall should take care of them, but where can a guy get phostoxin?

Aluminum Phosphide (Phostoxin) is a bit of a pain because you're supposed to plug all the gopher holes with rocks first, and easy to miss an escape route. Also pricey $125 a 1kg canister with a fumigation license(which I have), but a god send when you have bugs in your grain. Those propane options look interesting.

Once was a foam option.
Time consuming but it worked.
Once they overrun a location it takes a while to get rid of them.
