Smoke I think is more problematic than helpful.

Burrowing owls are still alive and thriving.

Last bins of canola and wheat sold today. Some years it pays to wait.

Still have 2026 seed that's cleaned.

Our best rain is by balcarres at 1.8 since may 1

Our worst is north of Abernethy at 1.3. Since may 1.

Lots of lentils and a few fields canola snow canola.

Half done spraying. Wheat almost done. Peas barley long done. Few canola fields sprayed.

Basis still sucks for fall I guess the grain. Companies think its a bumper. Like last year hahahaha

      How does one resize pictures?

Furrow, a few years back you recommended Nutrien Ag for weather forecasting. I have enjoyed their content and they are fairly accurate (as far as forecasters go) and they show a pretty positive 2 week here. Red areas are 100mm. It's supposed to be thundershowers coming so there is hope!

I think it's too late. If you see that a sprinkle seems to desiccate the hay crop, same thing happens at harvest . The green will stay in the crop until it cant , then it dies. No matter the rain.

            We are there now.

I had a chat with the elevator manager and he said to me “ Crop looks to be coming good”
I said yes I guess if you look from the road and you are looking down the row. Go to the other side and look across the row tells a different story. Lots of brown in the field because the grain can’t even grow above the furrow. Or come ride in the sprayer and see things from above. It’s really difficult to see gaps in the row looking down the row!

Absolutely correct Seldom. The view from the sprayer cab tells the story. Wheat is thin and starting to go backwards. Skimpy spring rains are taking their toll on the tillers. No mosquitoes= piss poor wheat! Gonna be short so will save some money on PGRs. Canola is hanging in there but hasn’t had to use much water yet. Been cool so that’s saving crops ass so far. If the late May heat stayed with us it would be real ugly. 5 years and counting in the rain deficit department has taken its toll on the subsoil account and it’s gonna show up big time if the skies don’t open up.
Beans and peas are still doing good but we are gonna need some heat for the beans. Thankfully the weed pressure has been weak so hopefully one pass on all the crops this year. Hoping for an accurate rain forecast!

                    Bigger band of showers?
                    Hopefully significant amounts.

Cereal yields set and will be below average for the most part regards of potential rains here .
projected Rain totals dropping every forecast again
Will need a miracle not to lose money on cereals now
