Good morning the big second rain event of May has ended.
The total out of this one was 1/4 of an inch—total rain since April 1.35 in.
We were between the two swirling systems. So muddling happened the last two days. Counters and anhydrous and cold don't work. Your outside slot cleaning out discs. The Shank machine worked way better but barley stubble had issues.
So here is the crop report.
Seeding is 68% done and later today in our area it will be full going.
South and east of the valley one to two more days. Some have sat for a week.
Hrs and Durum are almost all done seeding with early seeded coming up. But the cold last two weeks delayed emergence. A seed treatment would have helped. Claysoil way slower than lighter.
Early barley up and late barley being seeded now.
Lentils and peas are all done with only a few popping out of the ground.
Flax and canary being seeded now.
Canola is the crop going in now. Early seeded that popped out probably got froze off. Volunteers look like round up hit them even if the field isn't sprayed yet.
Pastures are slow to green up but newely seeded hayfields are really looking good. Older fields are slow.
We need heat to get things going and my touque vest and heavy gloves want to get out away till November or December.
Lots of wild oats coming.
Let us all know how your area is doing.
Lots of water still around but subsoiled sloughs disappeared faster. Yes did sink a truck on one driveway but not bad.
Carney is Trudeau 2.0. The new Ag minister I'm not sure about but he's from PEI so I'm sure he gets western farming.
