Friday Crop Report on a Thursday. Week 3 of May.

Good morning the big second rain event of May has ended.

The total out of this one was 1/4 of an inch—total rain since April 1.35 in.

We were between the two swirling systems. So muddling happened the last two days. Counters and anhydrous and cold don't work. Your outside slot cleaning out discs. The Shank machine worked way better but barley stubble had issues.

So here is the crop report.

Seeding is 68% done and later today in our area it will be full going.

South and east of the valley one to two more days. Some have sat for a week.

Hrs and Durum are almost all done seeding with early seeded coming up. But the cold last two weeks delayed emergence. A seed treatment would have helped. Claysoil way slower than lighter.

Early barley up and late barley being seeded now.

Lentils and peas are all done with only a few popping out of the ground.
Flax and canary being seeded now.

Canola is the crop going in now. Early seeded that popped out probably got froze off. Volunteers look like round up hit them even if the field isn't sprayed yet.

Pastures are slow to green up but newely seeded hayfields are really looking good. Older fields are slow.

We need heat to get things going and my touque vest and heavy gloves want to get out away till November or December.

    Lots of wild oats coming.

Let us all know how your area is doing.

Lots of water still around but subsoiled sloughs disappeared faster. Yes did sink a truck on one driveway but not bad.

Carney is Trudeau 2.0. The new Ag minister I'm not sure about but he's from PEI so I'm sure he gets western farming.

Its sure wet from Regina to Fort. Then not much till Melville.

Crop looks yellow that's up probably due to cold and not much sun.

    Trees even look sick.

It never stopped drizzling here since the night of the 18th. Rain gauges showing over 1/2 inch. Very few farmers are done seeding and with two major rain events within an 8 day period, this gumbo will need some drying winds for seeders to get back in the fields. Forecast looks promising, highs in the 20’s should get everything growing.

Two days misty drizzle only 2/10"

1/2" total since snow, soil moisture fine at 1-2"

Too cold, slow growing so far. Many done, most 75% +

almost 100% seed able fields, opposite of 2024, rained 2.6", was muddy seeding after today.

Remember 1 to 2 inches doesn't make a crop yet in the drought area but its sure nice to see. Hope is maybe coming back now the north need a rain soon. We also need heat to get this thing growing.

Light frost again this morning and everything is slow and yellowish . Not many unsown fields left in the area. Alfalfa looks burnt on top now .

4/10 of rain for us this past Sunday. First measureable rain since spring thaw. Crops out of the ground and look ok for now. I bought my hay crop over the phone two days ago.(most of it anyway) Grass needs rain asap.

No rain this year in the deep NE Sask. Some canola is sitting in dry dirt. No rain in the forecast for 14 days.

250 acres of canola left to put in including our canola plots which will total 16 varieties this year. Without the plots could have been done today easily. Will finish tomorrow in the last field that I’ve been fighting with the beavers since snow melt to lower a 30 acre slough, dropped it 18” and plugged up my trench this morning.
