Friday crop report first week of may.

Good morning, it’s the Friday crop report on a Thursday. Sask Ag and Food is coming out today with their crop report, and it’ll probably show that 20% of the crop is in. Most went yesterday in our area. Across the valley are already on Canola. Moisture conditions are dropping as the hot winds are high on most days, while wind are taking their toll on the crop. fire bands are issued in all the RM farms I farm in.
Canola this morning is trying to get over the 712, if it does, 733 is the next one that’s $16.00 a bushel. If you have a not-bad basis, they lied to us since the fall. Farmers are out of canola the crop wasn’t as big as they said last year scamming at the highest level we need to know as farmers what the **** is going on. Until we do get that information, they can screw us over every year and it starts at the top with stats Canada is bullshit. on a good news front the Regina pats picked the number one and the number three. Its gonna be fun to watch hockey in Regina.

on our farm seeding began on Tuesday with the usual shit show, but Wednesday was more productive. We should be over 10 quarters today, so everybody else, let us know what’s happening in your area and have a great day.

Sunday we would of started but blew that main hose its tucked under the cab. Monday it spit. 1/2 inch so far this spring.

One word for this area, dry. On one quarter I have rented for 20 years we seeded a 2 acre slough bottom that I have never seeded, happening on many fields. It does simplify life not going around sloughs though. As for progress, one neighbour finished seeding Tuesday. Most are done wheat and are seeding canola. On the way home from spraying last night I passed some of the earlier wheat fields, you could see defined rows from the road. Definitely early here.

Seeding in my area is going to be pretty well done by mothers day or shortly after that. Powdery dry on the top and a good rain would be appreciated. There is subsoil moisture , as we did have a good amount of snow this past winter , but winds have been relentless , as usual. My peas are up , triticale is seeded and working on my durum now.

Neighbour was pumping sloughs and the his field next tthat was seeded and rolled was blowing all day.We will hit third finished tonight.

Drill 2 is starting Barley today. Drill one continues with wheat till 16th May, it switches to Canola.

Lots of lentils going in our area and Durum.

This has been a different spring for me for sure. As some may remember I retired from a great career in farming. I’m now sitting on the sidelines watching the things I used to do. My wife and I bought a beautiful acreage SW of MJ.

I can’t recall a spring where guys are going like they all farm 50k acres and it’s the 25th of May. In 10 days with good weather there will be lots of drill parked. I went a sprayed for a good friend the other day so he could keep seeding. He’s all by himself and with the wind coming I told him I would get some acres done so he could keep seeding. He was pretty happy I came now with these winds. Noticed sprayers were going crazy last night. Was almost like it was desicating season. LOL

I thought this spring would bother me not being out on the land, it actually hasn’t. I have things going on to keep me occupied. I’m 57 and enjoying all what life offers. I guess at the end it was time to walk away. I will be at the lake for the long wk end which has never happened.

Even though I’m not in the game anymore I still like to come on AV and see what’s happening. Enjoy reading SKF report and what everyone writes. Guess I’m more less a “lurker” now. ????????
