Open and Accountable
In 1998, changes were made to put control of the CWB squarely in the hands of the producers whose grain it markets. A 15-member board of directors was established, with 10 positions on the board now elected directly by grain farmers in districts across Western Canada. The new Board of Directors invited the office of the federal Auditor General, Sheila Fraser, to conduct an in-depth audit of CWB finances and processes. This is a direct response to farmers' requests for assurance that the CWB conducts its business in a transparent and effective manner. The Office of the Auditor General found the CWB’s accounting and reporting systems are “economical and efficient”.
