That is the kind of life story that fascinates me. Please share more details if you are willing.

I was 20 years old when I came from the Netherlands my dad had a leased farm that my brother and nephews still farm today. I left behind my whole family 8 brothers and sisters so the chance to farm back home was almost nil. I worked for a few farmers and lumberyard and bought grain for about 10 years. My dream was to start farming some day. Bought a farm in 1992 it was 8 quarters in a block for 350k bought equipment for 100 k and off to the raises. Timing is everything. Bought some more land earlier on and are up to 15 quarters. Have not bought any in the last 15 years. We farm very challenging land with lots of solonetz. But it has been very rewarding. At the present I am farming with my son and farm about 4400 acres.Originally posted by AlbertaFarmer5 View PostThat is the kind of life story that fascinates me. I still have a few kicking around the place. Not sure why.Originally posted by malleefarmer View PostAny one remember the 8 track tape players in cars like a darn video cartridge.

But the 8 track got more miles than my new GMC pickup on my trip to the west in '78. The beauty of them was that they never had to be rewound or reversed - the Eagles just kept playing and playing and playing...
Still would listen to them if I had a player. Just like some other things - "...you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave..." :-)
Some of the songs on my favorite tapes were lost for a couple of decades until the arrival of YouTube's magical restorative powers.

Started driving legal in 76, AC/DC and Foghat Live on 8 track. Gas was 65 cents a gallon and White Seal was $3.80 a dozen. 20 bucks could buy you a lot of fun or a bit of trouble. Remember coming home from a night on the town at sunrise and dad having coffee already. He goes good yer already up we can start fencing through that bush first thing this morn !Originally posted by malleefarmer View PostAny one remember the 8 track tape players in cars like a darn video cartridge.

Think about 73, 8 track 4channel deck, 4 speakers, lots of Bass/volume. A reverb add on. Moontan Radar Love. Then add CB radio, 8' whip antenna. Party on. Started driving in 68, a $400 used 64 Acadian. 45 cent gas.Originally posted by malleefarmer View PostAny one remember the 8 track tape players in cars like a darn video cartridge.

Still have an old home deck in shop with a few 8 tracks, tape probably rotten/dust.
