A position, yes there is a gamble.
But an option to buy a position whether long or short is not a gamble. It is insurance
And often the value of that option can appreciate prior to the deadline to exercise.
It is not as lucrative as taking an equal size position by buying or selling a futures contract but it can make a significant difference.

I’m glad to have agriville and other sources of info.
With out information, and communication canola price would still be at $10.10 bushel.
All that’s needed for a open market, democratic, marketing system in Canada is reporting of export sales, shipping month, and destination. This just seems reasonable and achievable. Not just canola but all commodities, if there are any more commodity board elections I will phone and survey those running and post the results.
Makes one wonder if say the Canola grower directors are aware of this issue? Are they voicing concerns for or against reporting, it would be nice to have a update on progress made to date ( besides what appears to be none).
