      There are lots of farmers that are EQUIPMENT POOR! They are attracted to shiny new paint like a fly to a raw steak on a hot day. Maybe some who come here are on this site are that way. These guys keep the demand up and the prices rising.

      To me the combine is the most important piece of equipment on the farm and needs to be at the least in excellent running order. It is amazing that an entire years wealth and earnings of a farm depends on what goes through the combine. All the bills and investments and future rides on what the combine puts out.

      I am amazed how some farmers with all new equipment and that trade every year have anything left for themselves after it’s all paid for. They are just working for the machinery dealer? Some of them have bought into the newest and the latest technology speil.?

      The fact is there is not enough value in the grain or productivity of the machine to cover the current cost....so most borrow to finance the purchase. Really these guys are borrowing from the future of the farm. Wonder why farmers don’t get ahead?

      I know a guy that lives in an 80 year old shack of a house and has $3 million of brand new green in the shed and farm 2000 acres paid for land. He’s 80 too, he was also never married so maybe that explains it . HAHA. He is JD favourite customer and pays cash. Rare breed and the exception.

      Each to this own. Makes the world interesting.

          The sprayer is the most important piece if equipment by far.
          Without spraying chemicals, its all weeds, no crop. Major dockage, downgrades and and you go backwards fast.
          You can top up fertility with a sprayer for better yield and protein, also apply fungicide to protect your investment.
          Do not skimp when you buy a sprayer.

            Maybe collectors buying those low houred 7810.....

            Every one on RBA under 2500 hours has sold for more than the original new price. ...that's crazy....

              You can squarely blame the price of new equipment for the ability for popular good used equipment's ability to hold it's value.

                  Sometimes buying new is only a few thousand more than used.
                  Example.Used 10 yr old grain dryer is only $5000 less than brand new next yr?
                  Age also..Young buy new because you have a life time to pay for it.
                  Middle age.Have to buy used because of wife and kids to think of and pay for their education.
                  Older..Phuck it..I deserve a new one because I have worked a life time to get here..

                    Similar HP, PS, duals 4430 in 1974 $14000. And today? $200,000?

                    We have one, $20,000 in 2000, still auctions are close but what is the NEW one? Try $60,000

                      I still say the price of equipment can be blamed on anyone who buys new, and the features they demand. If there was demand for Super 92 combines, with all of the creature comforts that they came with, someone would still be making them, and likely for cheaper than they were new( inflation adjusted).

                      No one who buys new equipment wants less technology and features, so manufacturers keep outdoing themselves adding them to attract buyers.
