    Themselves included?

This whole thing is turning into a tit for tat battle.

Everyone is happy as long as the great USA reigns supreme?

The first court chose a lighter sentence. When governments and politicians in China or elsewhere arbitrarily interfere in the court system you no longer have the rule of law. This sentence was clearly designed to punish Canada for following the extradition agreement for the Huawei executive. Perhaps you support political interference in the courts but I sure as hell don't. Politicians have no business interfering in independent courts.

We don't need a Huawei 5G system in Canada. That is unless you want China taking control of your communication network over the next diplomatic row.

Speaking out about human rights issue in China and Saudia Arabia is the right approach. That is unless you think your business is more important than human rights? The Chinese need willing trade partners.

Pissing off customers is not good for business either way.
NO! Trudeau and Freeland are incompetent and they have taken a hostage for Trump. Trudeau is a Trump puppet.

This the arrest of Huawei executive Ms Wang has nothing to do with spying. She was arrested for breaking the US sanctions in Iran. Her husband is a Vancouver resident

The arrest and extradition have to be consistent with Canadian and international law. There are no Canadian sanctions on Iran. The US sanctions on Iran are a violation of Canadian and International (UN) law adopted by the United Nations.

So when Trudeau tells you "we are a country of law he is lying to you" Trudeau is in fact acting in violation of Canadian and International law

There may be some substance to what Black suggests. But it is a complicated mess to sort out.

The USA has demonstrated it is willing to ignore human rights and international laws when it suits them. The US system is deeply flawed and they are becoming much more inward looking and isolated under Trump. But Trump will soon be gone and hopefully they will elect a competent next President.

As much as the US is flawed and I disagree with many of their foreign and domestic policies, the US still has a better more open political system than China and is a more important ally for Canada.

Its up to the government of the day with their diplomatic channels and China experts to sort this out. We can sit back and second guess their decisions, but in the end few of us know the full story or appreciate the complicated nature of this issue.

Huawei has greatly benefited from Canadian research. Jim Balsillie former head of RIM says Canada is giving away our technological advances to Chinese companies with little benefit. Huawei's main advantage in providing 5G is they are cheaper than the competitors. But since China has a law that allows the Chinese government to force Huawei to act in the interest of the Chinese government, why should we take that risk? Maybe other systems are vulnerable too. But many countries are not willing to go along with Huawei.

Why doesn't the government help develop 5G network with a Canadian tech company? Or in partnership with European or US companies?

John Diefenbaker once stood up for Canada and opposed US ballistic missiles on Canadian soil. John Kennedy at the time referred to Diefenbaker as "that son of a bitch in Canada"

Your statement "the US still has a better more open political system than China and is a more important ally for Canada" That is not the issue. What you are saying is that that Canada is not an independent country and is a rogue state supporting Trump and his sanctions on Iran. These Iran sanctions was the reason given in Canadian court for the arrest.

I believe in an independent country. We need to support the rule of law as we agreed to in the UN. Supporting US sanctions on Iran is in fact violation of international law.

Please review this article where Trump states he will release Meng when he completes a successful trade deal with China

Trump is quoted in this attached article. "Trump said he would consider intervening in the Justice Department’s case against Meng if it would be in the interest of U.S. national security or help forge a trade deal with Beijing.

So then Canada has taken a hostage for Trump. We now have the consequences. How will this impact farmers.

I am all for a more independent Canada as well. But when the US and China push you around what are you going to do?

Chretien said no to Bush and the invasion of Iraq. Harper was all in favour. How many Canadian Troops would we have lost fighting a useless war that has destabilized the middle east?

In hind sight we should have let Ms Huawei continue on her way. The US would hardly have noticed. Let them play their Trumpian games.

US farmers are still waiting for their soybean tariff compensation cheques. Argentina is importing cheaper US soybeans and exporting their own to China at a nice price premium.

                  The gods must be crazy!

Man, it’s way beyond me. With everyone saving their information to the cloud gotta wonder who has access to the cloud. It’s all very freaky.
