    So 2 scenaraios

1 we really are stupid because we are rushing to sign now over the weekend. Man we sure should have rushed to sign before the first deadline hey???? Hahahah

2 this was about as well played as could be. We are allowing trump to save face and sign the deal before it is evident that without Mexico trump the deal maker is only as usual playing with himself. Which is the proper thing to do considering if the republicans retain the votes in November we could end up in an even more looney tunes situation with the idiot than it is now.

It will be interesting to see the details.

Why do we have to rush to the mexicans again. Thats embarrassing. Instead of standing like a man and dealing with trump, our negotiators slink around and try to go around his back with congress, stupid conferences and now to the mexicans again who threw us under the bus once already. Weak and dishonest.

          https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-obrador-phone-call-1.4843611

          quotes from the article.

President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked him during a Thursday phone call "to intervene and call on the U.S. government to reach an agreement" with Canada on the renegotiation of NAFTA.

ajl, this is also from the cbc article,

But Lopez Obrador, who takes office on Dec. 1, said the NAFTA language between Washington and Mexico City was now final.
"We are not going to re-open the negotiation. That you can be sure of," Lopez Obrador told reporters in Mexico City.

That is from the new socialist Presidantee, just elected.

The CBC report wasn't quite accurate. Obrador was reported as saying that the text of the agreement was final and he has no interest in further negotiation. He would like Canada in but the agreement would not be modified. Actually it is in Mexico's best interest not to have Canada in. The US doesn't care either way. They can tariff cars from both Canada and Mexico. I don't get how some can think that supplying nations rather than the customer calls the shots here. The US is the final destination for all the worlds exports so it might as well have a tariff.

You are correct, the USA (consumer) is always right. We hear the same on this forum. Tough suppliers, we must bow to consumer demand right or wrong. And supply is not a problem from else where.

Yes much of deal that Mexico has agreed to with USA is what was agreed to with Canada long before squirrel had a tantrum and said only deal with Mexico. So no not much on that part of the deal to be renegotiated.

Which part of my statement would be inaccurate? I will grant that there is a tiny bit of trade in the world that does not involve the US but that is inconsequential.
