I applaud the US in supporting their farmers. I had a long debate recently with a prominent business person and they were sure that the hospitality (restaurants/ hotels) are more
Important to the economy than agriculture.
It is so obvious to me, that ag and ag manufacturing so much beats out consumption type industries like hospitality that it is not even a contest. Funny how he didn’t see it.
In the last decade grain has become a very worldwide market. We have foolishly (or not) shared our technological enhancements with many developing countries (usually subsidized by our own Canadian govt) and now countries like
Russia, ukraine, India and Argentina are major grain producers (and increasing). In our world of heavy govt regulation and massive input costs we simply cant compete.
Someone I know recently bought a beautiful farm
In the Ukraine for $400 per acre...sounds like
I better brush the dust off my perogy recipes! Home to mother Russia!!!
