    My wife keeps telling me that politicians are selected/created knowing that they have skeletons in the closet, this is so that they can be blackmailed throughout their careers. Perhaps this strategy backfired with this character, he is so far removed from reality that it has never occurred to him that there are societal norms to which most people at least attempt to conform to. And a lot of his supporters evidently feel the same way.
