    wd9,

We farmed in northern Manitoba (Ethelbert area) and now in Humboldt, SK... Averages are one thing, but they mean nothing with on farm numbers.

In Ethelbert we routinely pushed 9553 to 40 and 5440 to 35 when the area average was 17.

Fertility is key, as is weed control.

We used to swath with a bat reel pull type swather. 5440 was a b**ch to get through it, 9553 stands well and doesn't branch much so it's way easier to swath. It also doesn't shell, so we could leave it standing longer.

I don't just look at averages to make up my mind with what to grow... Other thing too, the VT canola varieties seem to be more resistant to asters sclerotinia than the Invigors.

I have only grown DeKalb once and it left a bad aftertaste. Not sure I want to try them again.
