RCMP seize firearms from evaxuated homes

    http://www.calgaryherald.com/touch/news/
    alberta/RCMP seized High River firearms
    from homes control/8588851/story.html?

What a disgusting abuse of power, funny
how a registry that was supposedly gone
    is still be abused.

Presumably these guns will be returned to their lawful owners once they reclaim their homes and can resume normal activities.

If police found unsecured weapons wouldn't it be better to keep them from the hands of potential looters?

Don't condemn the RCMP for trying to do their duties...they are doing a public service under unusual circumstances.

If there was adequate man power to go
door to door seizing weapons, you would
think that there would be enough
manpower to simply patrol for looters.
Most of those firearms will never be
recovered since proof of ownership is
required to claim them. I'm sure I only
have one or two guns that I would have
      receipt for still.

I hope they rounded up all of grannies
knives too. I'm willing to waiger that
people taking in their registry certs
will be denied since the registry
        "doesn't exist" anymore.

The gun storage requirements still exist though. Harper's !@#$%^ government didn't change that provision or any part of the gun laws that require licenses and such.

Requirement for registering CERTAIN long guns and shotguns was dropped...BIG FRICKEN DEAL!!!

Still lots of vexatious regulation exist some of which make sense and others that don't.

The same thing was done at Slave Lake. Each weapon
was tagged with serial#, make, model, address, and
time of pick up and where possible, name of occupant.
It was only guns not secured or properly stored, i.e. -
out in plain view. Why wouldn't a responsible fire arm
owner not make sure they were in storage or at the
very least out of sight. And were the RCMP not
patrolling for looters? That's how they came across the
weapons. A little crime prevention don't you think?

Okay as long as it was for my safety
that rcmp were knocking down doors and
              seizing property that's okay.

These are most likely people who moved
their firearms out of a basement safe
and stashed them in a closet or under a
bed for safe keeping. Maybe the police
                should focus on ensuring everyone's
                belongings are safe by preventing
                looting and arresting those that
                disobeyed the evacuation order.

Break and enter is break and enter - matters not who the perp is.

"...officers relied on forced entry to get into numerous houses..."

In this case, it is so much worse since it was the law that took it upon themselves to act like common hooligans.

                  No excuse whatsoever.

If anyone wants to try to defend the actions of runaway law enforcement, they are merely proving two things

-1) that they are dealing with some deep psychological issues based on pathological insecurities; and

                  2) that they give up all right to protest when the same thing happens to them, when they don't see the "law's" justification of the assault on their civil rights.

Trying to offer any justification of those dastardly actions requires the highest level of naivety or lowest level of intelligence.

No respect whatsoever any longer for the RCMP.

Short answer is that the police took advantage of a catastrophic event in order to carry out a pogrom.
