Wal Mart oil vs. Federated Coop Oils

I have have been buying Wal Mart engine and hydraulic oil for about a year now. I used to really like the convenience of buying from my local Coop but I refuse to now . I really dont like the whole Wal Mart psychology, but pails of oil are $30.00/pail less than Federated Coop. If i am in the city, I can swing by WM grad any pail of oil and that saving has paid my fuel to the city.
I hate being like this but Federated Coop owns the refinery....IN SASKATCHEWAN.... this is pure nonsense so I vote with my feet/tires.
Oh yeah, my youngest piece of machinery is 18 yrs old so if they blow up, good chance its worn out, not the oil.

I've been using Walmart oil exclusively for a decade, hasn't hurt anything yet.

Me too, at least 10 years and i run equipment till its free. Wal mart oil is recycled oil but given the oil never wears out - just the additives are replaced. Or so i've heard, can anyone confirm or deny that?

Quality oil is not that expensive. If you want to talk about getting ripped off canola seed comes to mind.

If you really wonder about oil brands, and if they are the same just do a simple test. One way to test different brands is just ask what your friends and neighbors use, and bring home 100 ml. Now take you oils and heat them up in different pans on the stove until they are not to far from boiling. Now let them cool down, and see what you think. You may make your decision on what you see.

I've tried using the cheaper oil ( Napa, Walmart, Cambodian Tire) in the old ( 40 years) diesel tractors. They go through it so fast it ends up being more expensive, one used oil so fast I lost oil pressure in one day, the oil was so low. It pours like water as compared to brand name oils. Sticking with brand names for most stuff now except old gas engines.

That is a good suggestion . I am pretty lazy, so if the label says it meets the industry standard specifications i usually buy it.

                  Local Co-op

                  Diesel Motor Oil.
                  15W40. $4.35/ liter
                  Enviro. $0.15/ liter
Add 10% sales tax (except no PST on enviro)

Nearly $5.00/ liter all in. What's. Wal-Mart's worth?
