How much of this aid talk is coming from the cabin, seasonal site or from the cab of the $75,000 chev 3500HD that some guys bought the last 5 years that they couldn't afford. Just saying. Live within your means like everybody else in the world has to that doesn't get govt asst when their business fails or has tough times

FYI, a lot of people wouldn't want my lifestyle.

Simple and meager, and that is just my personality. Lol. No cabin and hot holidays. No boats, bikes, sleds.

Is what we do a real business?

If it was farmers would not exist. The risk is too much for our corporate managers to get involved in. If the risk could be managed Cargill etc. would take real control and grow the crop.

We are gamblers and the way we farm can relate to different forms of gambling.

I think I play poker, building the pot as the game builds to harvest.
Some play lotto or roulette but it is still pure gaming.

Governments only feed our habit to stop civil unrest if food becomes short or expensive.

My farming success results in part from a drought in 76 when we had a crop. Luck, and a very successful farmer I once met when asked how he grown for nothing to 15000 acres in 25 years, replied it was the day he was born. If he had been 21 a year earlier and started farming he would have gone bust.

Do any of you think of the madness of seeding dollars in the ground ,fertilizing with more dollars, spraying even more dollars then spend loads more money on a machine to collect your dollars back
        .
Hang on it is not dollars now it is a commodity!

Does anyone want to give me my money back?

Makes poker look safe is that why we do it.

We need more welfare support for the farmers that had 5 bumpers in a row previously high lentil prices etc and now one year of drought are in desperate shape can t afford canadian diesel prices for their 3590 hd

Or the Toronto Bay Street farmer investing in saskatchewan farms never farmed in their life assumed the coverages of the farms they purchased and after one shitty year last year where they collected agristability when all other farms didn't in their area they will once again require desperate welfare due this time to legitimate drought that they could not even seed their farm.

Farm families that made it through several years of floods or other loss need not apply.

              Parsley

Care to enlighten us about 1988 and what that payment did for the communities.

A lot still need to figure out that you don't need to go all in at or before seeding .

I'm an organic producer, bucket, so you'll have to tell me about what some program, (support was it?) did for communities. Federal, provincial or local?

I know a bit about hail insurance programs...

Tom in Alberta crop insurance levels are way higher than in Saskatchewan, perhaps you could tell us what levels 80% coverage gives you in Alberta just to put the comparison of available safety net in perspective.
