    Well this should go well...

Well.. the new alberta prosperity plan looks pretty solid. This little number ( on page 40) probably isnt gonna go great though.

    Hectare/ acre tax ... just a mere 50$/ ac on every...single..acre.

Ah. And. The land titles provides the hectare information..
    Oh thats just peachy !!

This property tax proposal would reduce tax for acreage holders but increase tax for larger land owners, there are alot of years where grass lands, especially, and cropland don't return 50 dollars an acre gross. This would drive down property values.

So a 2500 ac farmer would need to pay 125 k in personal income taxes under current tax rates.

Know who doesnt pay 125 k in personal income taxes every year? A 2500 ac farmer.

that would increase avg agricultural land tax by....10 fold?

      Hahahhahahhahahhahahahahahhahahha

Seems to be an unrealized capital gains tax.

Interesting proposals in the plan but this one does need a rethink as it is a shift in property taxes not an elimination of them. In the republic of Alberta, I would welcome health care user fees coupled with an insurance copay to fund health care. This would make the patient the primary driver in health care reducing costs and making the system more responsive. A copay insurance plan would help with affordability. Education should move to vouchers that follow the student. Property tax then be the sole domain of the municipality as this would reduce cost of education and expand school choice. In order to reduce cost, our county could eliminate the agricultural service board as it does nothing to benefit the farmers. I like the road grading and moving the right of ways but everything else should be eliminated
