The myriad of instances in the last 250 years of them trying to take us over militarily and economically points to just that. We share a lot of things in common but when it boils down they aren’t our friends. In my opinion you’re naive to think otherwise. For as much economic benefits we got from nafta we gave up our sovereignty and independence somewhat. We became dependent and expectant the USA would cover defense in exchange for cheap resources. Now I hope we can claw our way back to standing on our own. I blame Trudeau for steering Canada towards being more dependent on the Americans by ticking off the Chinese and Indians and other dumb moves. Absolutely not would be the wise answer from the west. We have a lot of potash that would be worthless without the US market. Where else is it going to go? If we were to place export taxes on it we cede market share to places like Belarus were US eliminated sanctions on fertilizer from that source. President Trump knows that carnage is a wef agent involved in trying to defeat the US. The other thing that happens is that domestic US potash gets a big boost. Right now, they will not develop in the US as it comes in cheaply enough. The US could export tax phosphorous exports to canada. Same thing applies to oil. Trump moved on Venezuela do to the fact that he knows that carnage is involved with the wef jokers trying to over throw the US. Diversify your supply sources. Thug ford can go tariff his cars but otherwise keep his pie hole shut. No bigger fat moron exist anywhere on the planet. Just because ontariowe has nothing of value to the US, does not give him any right to tell the west what to do. Another thing that canada could do is negotiate in the supply management and alcohol space and not act like petulant children but given the input from the far left on here, that is a big ask.
