Alberta deregulated the electricity market in Alberta. This has led to the highest prices in Canada in many cases.

It also opened the door for low cost renewables to build a lot of capacity.

Danny Smith had to re-regulate the renewables to slow them down because they were too successful. So she came up with lots of bogus land use rules that only applied to renewables.

Oil, gas and other industries use far more land than renewables.

"Developers must post formal reclamation bonds or financial security directly with the province (or secure explicit agreements with landowners) to cover complete post-project land cleanup"

The reclamation bonds are a joke considering oil and gas which have a much larger impact and there are tens of thousands of wells and facilities needing clean up that have only a small bond that is no where enough to cover reclamation.

Its the UCP way to pick winners and losers. Make up unfair crap rules for renewables and ignore the elephant in the room of a much bigger cleanup of oil and gas facilities.

That's your UCP at work Wilton! Discouraging investment, jobs and economic growth and lower electrcity prices because they don't like renewables.

I’ll never forget an NDP bureaucrat giving a speech at an information session at I think Moosomin back in about 1990. He emphatically presented power-point maps that “proved” that oil reserves stopped at Alberta/Saskatchewan border. Yep - The underground pools of oil were cut off right at the Alberta border. The crowd eyed each other in disbelief.

No one was surprised that these were the same buffoons that were positive as all get-out that fossil fuels were causing catastrophic heating in our climate and for sure by 2000 we would be baked to a crisp. The dreaded ozone layer was going to entrap us in this imaginary oven. The “Brains of Buttville” were shovelling B.S. as fast as they could. And the false rhetoric shovelled by these master-minds’ was bought and paid for by our tax dollars. Thank God Saskatchewan booted the crappers to the curb.

Norway one of the richest and best countries in the world to live created Stat Oil so that Norwegians would control the oil industry. They have 2.2 Trillion USD in savings from the oil industry. They decided the oil belongs to Nowrwegians and most of the benefits should go to all the citizens.

Saskatchewan and Alberta on the other hand give the oil resource mostly to oil industry to privatize the profits and socialize the cleanup and have little to show for one time resource revenue.

Blakeney and the NDP created Sask Oil and Grant Devine sold it off to his oil buddy friends.

Which system of ownership and development works better? Norways by far! Lesson - don't let Conservatives negotiate with the oil companies because they give up control every time and give away the resource.

And Saskatchewan still has Sask Power and Sask Tel crown corporations controlled by the government.
