We've potentially got a AI centre going up about 28 kms away.

Im struggling to comprehend it all.

I know AI touches all our lives im not pro not anti

800 acres was purchased. The AI component 500 acres and rest solar to power it.

These presumably all over the world but just how many to we need I just cant comprehend the need then more need.

This particular one is near our mighty Murray at the end of the flow before it goes to lakes then out to sea.

The cooling is massive and water is pumped from river then back to river apparently.

A public meeting was quite heated I didnt attend. Left with environmental concerns and right with spying dumbing down data collection type questions. They re going to collect rain water and use that as well.

I just cant get over sheer scale and maybe it's a small one?

Do you guys have them? Why cant they just be in one mega location like 10 miles by 10 miles?

Is the need for AI finite or infinite??

Look hopefully I dont come across as a dumb foooker. Maybe the world is passing me by.

PS I know the guy that sold the land mind boggling offer that he didnt think twice about err hes set up for life had no idea what land purchaser wanted it for didnt ask.

Our beloved agriville guess ai monitor this site and gather information all sites I guess.

Oh one concerning thing that people only picked up on meeting afterwards they can only use cooling water once reckon that must have been mistconsrcued why collect rainwater for cooling? Why build the centre where temps in summer often 38-42c ?? if it needs cooling also built near national highway logistics I guess

Not totally up on all things AI. But have read that in the warmer climates evaporative cooling is used to cool chips. In Canada they are planning on using a closed loop system which dramatically reduces the water use.

Data centers use incredible amounts of power. The power needs ramp up and down second to second. Some data centers are predicted to use similar power of a large city.

What I don't understand is why not create massive industry to use the waste heat, like greenhouses or similar. Canada could use all the potential greenhouse produced vegetables grown.

I somehow wonder if this wave won't be like the cannabis industry here in Canada. Industry overbuilds leaving half built, or empty buildings after demand doesn't reach projected levels.

Hope the facilities have a potential alternative use.

Again ignorance and hopefully wont end up in a free for all but the way there popping up everywhere geez the world might have to go back coal fired stations to keep up with energy demands.

Another chap I respect said nothing to fear which I dont more I dont know he said there basically just mega computers nothing more nothing less. Maybe not that simple

If cooling is main issue why not build in canada where outside temp lower probably makes zero difference

On top of these AI centers we are supposed to all have EV’s in the short future on an already strained power grid …..

Here's a good idea from France. That could produce the equivalent electricity of 10 nuclear reactors.

France has mandated that all outdoor parking lots larger than 1,500 square meters cover at least 50% of their area with solar panels or shade-providing trees. The law applies to both new and existing parking lots with spaces for 80 or more vehicles, with penalties for non-compliance reaching up to €40,000 annually.

Large parking lots (over 400 spaces) were required to be fitted with solar systems within three years, while smaller lots (between 80 and 400 spaces) must comply within five years. The French government estimates this solar initiative can generate up to 11 gigawatts of renewable power, which is the equivalent of roughly ten nuclear reactors.
By installing solar canopies over existing asphalt rather than clearing natural ecosystems, the policy provides major dual-use benefits:

• Generates clean energy directly above where vehicles park, reducing transmission loss.

• Provides shade and protection from the elements, which keeps cars cooler and improves electric vehicle (EV) charging efficiency.

Our Government is putting one in the RM of Sherwood, near Regina (Bell Canada) , 1.7 billion in cost , 300 megawatts of power demand , making it a major energy consumer in my opinion. Enough power usage of this center the equivalent to 300,000 homes.

Sounds like the land in question is owned by first nations , Gee how about that !!! I can just hear the squeaky wheels getting greased!!!

Funny how our Provincial Govt. can spend this kind of $$$ on a project , but they can't or won't give us good cell phone service here in the SW corner of Sask where I live???

Alberta , not that long ago was borrowing power from other provinces in January 2024 when demands exceeded supply because of a cold snap , so what is wrong with these leaders rubber stamping these projects?

It won't be long before revolving blackouts will be a common thing.

Guess I better invest in a higher capacity generator for my farm.
