A close cousin of mine was affected by severe mental illness. With all the medical help she received there was nothing which could alleviate her suffering. She meticulously planned her suicide and affairs put in order so that when her husband found her he had nothing to do but grieve along with the rest of the family. Still fricking bothers me to this day 18 years later. I am very torn on maid for mental health as I seen someone suffering from incurable suffering of such maladies but are we maybe selfish for wanting someone to suffer for our own personal feelings or whatever religious beliefs? It is tough. Other hand I’ve seen family and friends whither away from cancer and choose to suffer to the end and you just think if there is a god that they give mercy and take them.

The mental illness one is a tough one with regards to M.A.I.D. For some people mental illness is debilitating.
Shock therapy seems barbaric, both it and medications can leave people as kind of an empty shell....a shadow of their former selves.
Mental illness is a BROAD TERM for many maladies, some might be more treatable than others. Its not even that you can't always see it physically because sometimes it will affect physical health. Maid would provide a more dignified exit strategy than some of the more drastic measures people employ to end their lives.

Sure glad I don't have to make the decision to offer/extend M.A.I.D to anyone suffering from mental health problems.

Vast majority of MAID will still be used for terminal illnesses like cancer.

Mental health cases will require very close scrutiny and regulation.

As has been pointed out mental health suicides are already a common occurrence.

Perhaps placing mental health patients in a system that provides as much support and treatment as possible before they choose MAID would alleviate some of the risk.

But our current mental health system is not keeping up with all the addictions and other causes of mental health problems.

Geez, Looez, once a farmer around here doused himself with gasoline and burnt himself in a grain bin. Hard to believe anyone could hate themselves that much.
