Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre used a wide-ranging interview with influential U.S. podcaster Joe Rogan to make the case for Americans to drop tariffs on Canadian imports, and to defend the oil sector’s environmental record.
Mr. Rogan, whose show The Joe Rogan Experience is the most popular podcast in the world, welcomed Mr. Poilievre onto the program this week, saying he had long wanted to talk to him because he’s a “reasonable, intelligent person.”
For Mr. Poilievre, the interview was framed as an opportunity to speak to a major American audience about why U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs are raising costs for them.
He gave Mr. Rogan the example of aluminum, a key component for trucks. Washington currently has a 50-per-cent tariff on aluminum.
But the United States can’t make enough aluminum for its needs, Mr. Poilievre said, because it doesn’t have enough of the raw material.
“A tariff does not bring the production to America,” he said.
“It raises the price of the aluminum, and therefore the F-series truck. Get rid of that tariff. You lower taxes, you lower the cost of an F-series truck for the miner in Appalachia or the electrician in Ohio.”
Six main takeaways from Pierre Poilievre’s appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast In response, Mr. Rogan asked Mr. Poilievre if he’d spoken to the U.S. President about that issue. He said he had not, repeating that he believed it was Prime Minister Mark Carney’s job, and he supports him in those efforts. He also revealed that throughout his trip to the U.S. this week, he’s been texting Mr. Carney.
Mr. Rogan is a former UFC commentator and comedian whose program has more than 20 million subscribers on YouTube. He has been credited with shifting political and market trends; his support for Mr. Trump leading up to the 2024 election was touted as a major victory by the Trump campaign.

He has been critical of Mr. Trump as well. He told Mr. Poilievre the President’s comments about Canada becoming the 51st state were a crazy thing to say.
Mr. Rogan said during the interview that he had spoken to Mr. Trump about his musings on annexing Canada.Mr. Trump told him he was joking until people started telling him it could be a good idea, he said. Though Mr. Rogan repeatedly professed admiration for Canada, he did press Mr. Poilievre on the environmental fallout from the oil sands.
“I’ve seen some of the oil extraction that they’ve done up in Alberta, where you look at the area, it looks like scorched earth,” Mr. Rogan said.
Mr. Poilievre answered with a string of “no”s.
There is some environmental impact no matter what gets done, the Conservative Leader said. “But at the end of the day, the people who live there are very healthy and very happy, and they’re the strongest supporters of the expansion of the oil sands,” Mr. Poilievre said.
Poilievre pitches tariff-free auto industry pact with U.S. He said any suggestion to the contrary is the product of a “really disgusting PR campaign by extremist environmentalists and, frankly, some of our competitors, to try and make our industry look bad.”
Mr. Rogan said later in the broadcast that he’s been to Alberta to go hunting, something that Mr. Poilievre said he doesn’t do, and then asked Mr. Poilievre to explain Alberta separatism.
“It won’t happen,” Mr. Poilievre said. “Some people are frustrated. There’s some legitimate frustrations,” he added. “But at the end of the day, Canada’s going to be united.”
Beyond questions about Canada and Mr. Poilievre’s agenda, the duo had an extensive discussion about mixed martial arts, among other non-political issues. Mr. Poilievre also presented Mr. Rogan with a kettlebell made in Calgary by the company Black Box Customs.
Mr. Rogan had invited Mr. Poilievre on the program during last year’s election, but the Conservative Leader declined, telling Mr. Rogan in the interview it was because he couldn’t leave the country.
The podcaster proclaimed himself “baffled” that Mr. Poilievre didn’t win, and he pressed him numerous times on why. Mr. Poilievre didn’t directly answer. He also refused to criticize Mr. Carney. “I won’t criticize him on foreign soil,” Mr. Poilievre said.
“Well, good for you,” Mr. Rogan replied. “That’s such a Canadian thing to do.”

A key demographic for Mr. Rogan’s show – people between the ages of 18-34 – was also a key demographic for Mr. Poilievre’s Conservatives leading into the 2025 election.
His decision not to appear on the show then was criticized by some as a missed opportunity to get his message out. The interview was posted online at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday. By 5 p.m., it had more than 300,000 views and thousands of comments. Many of them praised Mr. Rogan for featuring Mr. Poilievre and said it had taken too long.
Mr. Rogan said he would vote for Mr. Poilievre if he could. Of their interview, he said: “I really hope it moves the needle up in Canada.”

The wanna be republicans in Alberta are no doubt disappointed with PP and his podcast with Joe Rogan!

It was a bad day for the MAGA separatists as PP has finally had the guts to take a stand. Too little too late as Carney and the Liberals surge ahead in the polls.

PP threw cold water on Alberta separation!

"Mr.

“But at the end of the day, Canada’s going to be united.”?

PP also had to defend the oil sands environmental record. When Joe Rogan knows how bad the open pit mining and tailling ponds look and calls them "scorched earth" you know you have lost the battle on claiming that the oil sands are "ethical oil"

Rogan “I’ve seen some of the oil extraction that they’ve done up in Alberta, where you look at the area, it looks like scorched earth,”

PP also said Trump should stop the shit about Canada becoming a 51st State!

"We're very proudly Canadian so we're never gonna be the 51st state," Poilievre said.

"I just wish he'd knock that s--t off so that we can get back to talking about the things that we could do as two separate countries that are actually friends."

Rogan appeared to agree with Poilievre, saying the 51st state comment was "a crazy thing to say."
