    Glass half full scenario

Do current goings on in Middle East show just how reliant the world is on fossil fuel or show reasons why we should wean ourselves.

    Depends on your viewpoint.

A very left leaning storm chase buddy here who hates trump with a passion a passing comment in a discussion made me ponder, "as much as I hate orange man and everything he stands for this is shake up world needs is gonna help renewable debate no end in long term" been thinking about that hence first comment.

Huge discussion in oz at moment we are so resource rich uranium gas iron ore coal in particular oil to lesser degree and what future should be going forward. Nobody disagrees with renewables its the amount and target.
Hypothetically a country at say 75% renewable to get that last 25% will cost more than first 75%.
Its good talking point ive got renewable buddies we get on fine they dont shove it down my throat and I dont shove my pro natural resource energy down theres.
I just discount the flogs and dont bother with em they dont help the cause idiots that glue themselves to the roads etc

Does not matter what energy source we use we will be fighting all around the world to control them. And we can't help but use huge amounts more and more every year. Every time we turn around something new and energy sucking like these AI factories telling us how to get out of bed and wipe our buts . We take a lot of great new ideas and screw them up before the ink dries. -22c this lovely spring morning every thing is still plugged in using lots of juice and throwing another bag of pellets in the stove to keep me and sweety nice and warm when not out feeding cattle.

Donny just turbo charged the renewable energy market.

Every country wants to reduce dependence on fossil energy sources when idiots like Trump start a war they can't win!

The 1972 mid east energy embargo caused the mother of all energy crisis and this could be the start of one that is far worse.

I hope the Trump supporters are enjoying $2.00 per liter diesel prices!

But no doubt they will still be blaming the carbon tax for all their problems! LOL

Was reading this morning about a C02 capture and storage system turned on in Ireland. Getting power from geothermal and pumping the C02 underground to make ROCKS. Should be a profitable activity ****.

Of course the price of oil causes inflation and the carbon tax doesn't. It's only common sense.

On the surface, here's what I see.
In the 50 years since the embargo.
Complacent attitudes towards energy security, self reliance and efficiency, ended for good.
Strategic reserves were built. Nuclear was built. Extraction got ever better. New fields developed. Pollution recognized.

The various tribes of the Middle East will have been at war with or without oil. Manipulation by larger powers predates oil.

The next form of commodity energy may exist in another 50. But what will never change is The Golden Rule.

Interesting to try and imagine a situation where energy is not commoditized. Impossible to imagine a species where political power isn't a factor.

So. Here's what's most likely for now.
Star Trek will stay on TV.
(Notice how there's two dissonant realities there too)
This latest blip in the largest oil play in history will merely add to a list.
The illusion of free energy will persist as there is profit in that.
Generation other than hydro carbon will evolve at it's own pace.
(The same tied to ag N production.)
                Likely supply and demand driven.
And re-read the Golden Rule when confused.
